Adding related assets and defining asset relationships

You can specify the assets in the repository that are related to an asset that you want to submit. You can also define how the assets are related.

About this task

If you find an asset to import, you are prompted to download assets that are related to that asset. By importing and evaluating the related assets, you can broaden your perspective and more effectively reuse assets.

Procedure

To specify related assets and define their relationships:

  1. On the Related Asset page, add related assets:
    • Drag assets from the Assets view to the Asset Editor to add a relationship.
    • Search for related assets.
      1. Click Add.
      2. In the Add Related Assets window, type keywords to find assets and click Search. The assets that meet your search criteria are listed.
      3. Select the assets and a relationship type that are related to the asset you are submitting or updating, and then click Finish.
The Related Assets page shows the relationship types and the assets for each of the types that are related to your asset. You can group assets according to whether they are constrained or unconstrained by clicking the Show Constraints icon. Constrained assets are required at the community or repository level. These requirements must be met to deliver the updates to the server. Unconstrained assets are not required.
  2. Optional: Change the relationship type for related assets by dragging the asset to a type or right-clicking a related asset and changing the relationship type.
  3. Optional: Indicate that the relationship exists for only a specific version or range of versions:
    1. Click Edit Range.
    2. To specify a minimum version for the relationship, select either is or is greater than. In the Lowest version field, type a version number. To specify no minimum, leave the field blank.
    3. To specify a maximum version for the relationship, select either is or is less than. In the Highest version field, type a version number. To specify no maximum, leave the field blank.
    4. To create a relationship with only the highest version number in the range that you specified, select Related to the highest version in the range. To create relationships to all versions within the range, select Relate to all asset versions in the range.
  4. For the relationships or relationship types to add to the asset, repeat steps 1 through 3.
  5. Continue to describe, categorize, and add artifacts to the asset, and then click Update to commit the changes to the asset repository.

Results

Your changes are saved in the asset repository and are available to other users in the community.
