Migrating data to a Rational Asset Manager repository

Use the batch upload utility to migrate data from an existing source and submit it as a new asset to IBM® Rational® Asset Manager.

Before you begin

You can use the batch upload utility to move assets in two ways:
  • Moving assets from one Rational Asset Manager server to another Rational Asset Manager server
  • Creating assets from folders or archives on your local file system and uploading the assets to a Rational Asset Manager server

About this task

If you are upgrading to a newer version of Rational Asset Manager, you can migrate data to the newer version. To migrate data in a schema to a newer version:

Procedure

  1. Set up a test instance of the older version of Rational Asset Manager; then upgrade the instance to the newer version.
  2. Export the production instance asset library and import the asset library into the test instance. Add both the older schema and newer schema to the test instance, and then validate the newer schema.
  3. On the test instance that you upgraded to the newer version, use the batch update task to update assets from the older schema to the newer schema. If a batch update task is not possible, you might need to manually migrate the data or create an extended batch utility.
  4. After you are sure that none of the assets depend on the older schema, remove it.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 on the production instance of Rational Asset Manager.

Example

For an extension example see Extending the batch update task.
