Using Rational Asset Manager as a definitive library

IBM® Tivoli® Change and Configuration Management Database (CCMDB) with Tivoli Release Process Manager can use IBM Rational® Asset Manager as a definitive library. You can set up multiple definitive libraries in a CCMDB repository by using different Rational Asset Manager repositories, differently configured integration modules, or other types of repositories.

About this task

A definitive library is a library that stores and protects definitive authorized versions of all software configuration items (CIs). It is a physical library or storage repository where master copies of software versions are placed.

A definitive library is defined by the following characteristics:
  • It is part of the content management system
  • It contains definitive versions of all media configuration items
  • It is separate from development, test, or live storage areas
  • It includes license documents
  • It includes documentation
  • It includes a physical storage
  • It is strictly controlled
  • It is the foundation for release management and deployment management

By establishing Rational Asset Manager as a definitive library, you can track software images through development, review, and approval processes and then specify the approved software images as belonging to the CCMDB definitive library.
