Importing and enabling repository libraries

To copy part of one IBM® Rational® Asset Manager repository to another Rational Asset Manager repository, export libraries and import them into another repository. After you import a library, enable it to make its assets and metadata active on the repository.

Before you begin

To work with repository libraries, you must be a repository administrator.

About this task

You can also follow this procedure to import a full repository model as a library.

Procedure

To import and enable a library:

  1. Log on to the Rational Asset Manager web client as a repository administrator.
  2. Click Administration.
  3. In the Repository Administration sidebar, click Libraries.
    • If you have not imported the library, go to step 4.
    • If the library that you want to enable is in the repository, go to step 5.
  4. To import a library .zip file:
    1. In the Import Libraries section, click Browse.
    2. Browse to the library .zip file that you exported.
    3. Click Import.
    4. If you are prompted to, type a meaningful name and version number for the library.
The library imports to the repository, but the library is not enabled. The information page for the library opens.
  5. To make the assets and metadata structures of the library available in the repository, enable the library.
    • To enable the library and make its asset and metadata structures available while maintaining their association with the library, in the Library Actions sidebar click Enable.
    • To make the asset and metadata structures available to the repository but not have them be controlled by the library, see Disassociating repository libraries.
  6. If necessary, resolve conflicts with the repository and with other libraries:
    1. Review conflicts with other libraries that are enabled or with assets or metadata that are active on the repository but that are not under the control of a library. If there are conflicts with other libraries, the elements from the library that you are enabling will replace the elements from any other libraries. If there are conflicts with assets or asset metadata on the repository, the elements from the library that you are enabling will overwrite that information on the repository.
      Attention:

If the assets or asset metadata in the library that you are enabling are on the repository and another library does not manage them, the library that you enable will overwrite that information on the repository. For example, if you import a library with a category schema Best Practices that exists on the repository, the version of Best Practices that is associated with the library will overwrite the schema that is currently on the repository. This cannot be undone.

If there are conflicts between libraries, the assets or metadata in the library that you are enabling will replace the existing elements from other libraries. To undo this, you can enable, disassociate, or revert the other library.

    2. To enable the library, click Enable.

What to do next

After you import or create and enable a library, you can apply versions and manage its assets or metadata over time.
