To create a link to an artifact on your Rational Asset Manager repository, you must have a project in your current Eclipse workspace.
This process allows you to better reuse common tools and solutions from your organization that are stored in Rational Asset Manager.
If you use this process to add a linked artifact to a different asset (for example, you include a shared set of tools from one asset in a new asset for a software release), the linked artifact files will not be included directly in the asset. Instead, the new asset will contain links to the artifacts on the original asset. The new asset will have a relationship Dependency to the original asset. If you import the new asset into your workspace, you will also import the linked artifacts from other assets.
A local copy of the artifact and any necessary folders are created in your Eclipse workspace. If the artifact changes on the Rational Asset Manager repository, the local copy of the artifact in your workspace will automatically update to reflect those changes.
Linked artifact files are displayed
in your workspace with a blue box
next to their file icon. If the artifact
has not fully downloaded, it will have a placeholder icon
until it is completely
downloaded into your workspace.
To view details about the asset that contains the artifact, right-click the file name and click . On the Reusable Asset Settings page, if the asset has multiple versions, you can select a version from the Asset version list and the artifact file updates to a different version. If the artifact file that you are linking to is not in that version of the asset (for example, the file was removed in the latest version), you will be prompted to select a different version to keep the file in your workspace.
If you commit the project, linked artifact files will not be added to a source control repository, such as Jazz™ or Concurrent Versions System (CVS).
