Lesson 5: Modify the My Business Planning schema

In this lesson, learn to add and reorder categories in a category schema.
After completing the revision of the Software Development category schema and then speaking with one of your corporate strategists, you realize that the My Business Planning category could be more specific to help users group assets into more specific categories. Adding granularity to schemas increases the chance that users correctly classify assets.

To add and reorder categories in this schema:

  1. If you are not on the Category Schemas page, in the Repository Administration sidebar, click Category Schemas.
  2. Click the Software Development link to open the category schema.
  3. In the Category Configuration section, locate the My Business Planning node that you added in the previous lesson.
  4. Hover over the My Business Planning row, click the Insert icon Insert icon, and select Add Child.
    1. Type a name for this child category: Retired Plans.
    2. Type the following description: Assets in this category are plans that have been retired.
    3. Select the Children are exclusive check box to specify that if you create child nodes of this node, one child per parent is allowed when the asset category is applied.
  5. Hover over the My Business Planning row, click the Insert icon Insert icon, and select Add Child.
    1. Type a name for this child category: Rejected Plans.
    2. Type the following description: Assets in this category are plans that have been rejected.
    3. Select the Children are exclusive check box to specify that if you create child nodes of this node, one child per parent is allowed when the asset category is applied.
  6. Hover over the My Business Planning row, click the Insert icon Insert icon, and select Add Child.
    1. Type a name for this child category: Approved Plans.
    2. Type the following description: Assets in this category are plans that have been approved.
    3. Select the Children are exclusive check box to specify that if you create child nodes of this node, one child per parent is allowed when the asset category is applied.
  7. Hover over the My Business Planning row, click the Insert icon Insert icon, and select Add Child.
    1. Type a name for this child category: In Progress Plans.
    2. Type the following description: Assets in this category are plans that are currently in progress or under review.
    3. Select the Children are exclusive check box to specify that if you create child nodes of this node, one child per parent is allowed when the asset category is applied.
  8. Reorder the child nodes by dragging a category to another location. Users are able to see the category nodes in the hierarchy that you establish here; make sure that the order is logical to the users of the repository.

    The following image illustrates the order of the child nodes in the My Business Planning category. Replicate the following order in your own example:

  9. Click OK to save the changes that you made to the My Business Planning category.
