Performing batch updates

Use a batch task to update large numbers of assets on a Rational Asset Manager server or create new assets at one time.

About this task

There are two types of batch updates available. Use the Rational Asset Manager to Rational Asset Manager batch update capability to update or create new assets from one server to another server. You might use this feature when you want to move established assets to another server or update the metadata of a group of assets at one time. Use the file system to Rational Asset Manager batch update capability to create new assets from directories or files and folders on your local system and place these on a Rational Asset Manager server.

There are a variety of methods you can use to find assets that need to be updated. Use the keyword search and apply filters to find a group of assets. For example, you can filter on assets with a rating of four stars with the keywords data entry, process in the Internal Sales community, which will return all of the assets in the Internal sales community that have data entry and process related content. In the Asset Search view, you can use the keyword search. Highlight individual assets or groups of assets in the Assets view, and then right-click to add them to the batch task.

If you want to add the entire list of assets that are returned by your search, you can copy the search shortcut to the clipboard and add the search shortcut as a source. This will create asset sources out of all the assets that are returned by that search.
