Granting requested permissions for assets and delegating permission requests

Administrators can grant permissions to assets and communities and can delegate permission requests to either lifecycle managers or other specific users.

Before you begin

You must be an administrator to grant permissions and delegate permission requests. Both granting permissions and delegating requests can be done only in the web client.

About this task

By default, when users request permission to a community, the community administrator receives the requests. Community administrators can delegate these requests to lifecycle managers.

Granting requested permissions for assets

Procedure

  1. In the IBM® Rational® Asset Manager web client, click My Dashboard.
  2. In the Tasks section, find the request for permission.
Tip: To view more details about the request, expand Permission Request.
  3. Click Grant Permission.
  4. Select a role that allows the user to see or download the asset, such as Asset Consumer. Then, click Update User.
  5. To close the request and remove it from the page and the tasks of administrators who can grant the request, in My Dashboard, click Mark complete next to the task.

Delegating permission requests

Administrators can delegate asset-level permission requests to a particular user or a lifecycle manager. Administrators might delegate requests when other users are the more appropriate people to decide whether to grant access approval.

About this task

If you decide to delegate all permission requests to lifecycle managers, complete this task. You can also delegate requests on an individual basis instead of delegating all requests. When a user requests permission to an asset, a task is created on your dashboard. In the row for the task, click Delegate and select a user to delegate the request to. If the Delegate link is not available, there are no lifecycle managers or users with adequate permission to handle permission requests for this asset.

Procedure

To delegate all permissions requests to lifecycle managers:

  1. Select Administration, and then click Communities.
  2. Select a community.
  3. Click the Lifecycles tab.
  4. Select a lifecycle.
  5. In the Lifecycle Managers section of the General Settings page, select Lifecycle managers handle all asset permission requests. Permissions requests are delegated to users in order of this priority:
    1. Users who have been given Grant Access permission in the Explicit Permissions page for the asset
    2. Lifecycle managers for this lifecycle
    3. Community administrators

Results

When tasks are delegated, new tasks are created for the appropriate users on their dashboards. Users can click Grant read access or Grant read and download access to grant permission.
