Lesson 1.7: Submit the asset

Submit the asset to the repository.

When you submit an asset, the asset might be reviewed if a required review process exists for the specific asset type that you chose. During a review process, individuals who are outside of your development team will review the contents of the asset and verify the accuracy and completeness of the content.

After you submit an asset, other users will be able to find the asset; rate and leave comments about the asset; and reuse the asset if it applies to their business context.

To submit the asset to the repository:

  1. Save the asset.
  2. Click Submit.
  3. To confirm that you want to submit the asset to the repository connection that is defined in the asset's general details, click Yes.
  4. In the Submit Asset dialog, click OK.
  5. Verify that the asset state has changed to Submitted. Depending on how your community is administered, assets of different types or categorizations may enter different lifecycles.
Tip: Did you notice the icons for the asset in the Asset Explorer view changed when you submitted the asset? If the Asset Explorer view isn't visible, open it by clicking in the menu Window > Show View > Other > Asset Management > Asset Explorer. Several different icons represent asset states in the workbench.
Table 1. Asset workspace icons
Icon Description
New asset icon
Indicates that the asset has not been submitted to a repository.
Connected asset icon
Indicates that the asset has been submitted to the repository.
Unknown status icon
Indicates that a repository connection has been established, but the ultimate status of the asset is still unknown.
Unknown repository image
Indicates that the repository connection for the asset is not known.
Corrupt icon
Indicates that the asset is corrupted and cannot be loaded.

After you submit the asset, you become the asset owner. You automatically gain email subscriptions to the asset and will be notified when a user downloads, discusses, or updates the metadata or content of the asset.

If the status of the asset changes on the server (for example, an administrator deletes your asset), the status of your asset in your workspace will update dynamically.
