Integrating with Rational Team Concert

IBM® Rational® Team Concert is a team collaboration tool that is built on a scalable, extensible platform that integrates tasks across the software lifecycle.

About this task

Note: These topics discuss using the source control management aspect of Rational Team Concert. For information about creating links to work items on Rational Team Concert, see Integrating with IBM Jazz servers.

Rational Team Concert makes it easy to exchange information with others in the context of your work. If an enhancement request changes, you and other team members are notified of the change automatically. You can reference the change in chat sessions and link to artifacts. Business stakeholders can also automatically stay informed about the status of task changes that interest them.

Throughout the software development lifecycle, you create Rational Team Concert assets and store them in a Rational Asset Manager server. These assets can be as large as the code for an entire product or as small as a meeting agenda. Depending on where you are in your software development stages or in what area of the organization you work, the type of assets that you produce will vary. You can submit and download assets in the Eclipse client between Rational Asset Manager and Rational Team Concert to create a seamless solution that is manageable over time.

This integration occurs from the Rational Eclipse client when artifacts of assets are under Rational Team Concert version control. When these artifacts are versioned and controlled by Rational Team Concert, Rational Asset Manager records valuable Rational Team Concert information for each of the artifacts when they are submitted to the server. This information includes the baseline that is created on each component. This information can be used for traceability and accountability of the asset and a can also be used to reconnect the user for future development of the asset.

Submitting projects or files to Rational Asset Manager

To submit Rational Team Concert projects or files to Rational Asset Manager, use the Eclipse client to include the projects or individual files as artifacts for assets just like you would for any projects or files that you submit to the Rational Asset Manager repository. Rational Asset Manager will detect the connections to Rational Team Concert and prompt you accordingly; information about the files and repositories will be saved along with the asset. For more information, see (Eclipse client) Creating assets, (Eclipse client) Attaching files, or (Eclipse client) Submitting assets.

Importing assets that contain projects or files from a Rational Team Concert repository

If an asset contains files or projects that are associated with Rational Team Concert source control, when you use the Eclipse client to import the asset, you will be prompted to download any version of the files directly from Rational Team Concert instead of from Rational Asset Manager. For more information, see (Eclipse client) Importing assets into your workspace.
