Changing the state of the lifecycle for assets

Based on the configuration of a lifecycle, you might have to manually change the state of an asset.

Before you begin

You must have the appropriate permissions to edit an asset to manually change the state of an asset. In addition a number of conditions, for example, a grade of 'pass' on all policies, might have to be met before an asset can change states. To modify the overall lifecycle, you must be a community administrator.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the IBM® Rational® Asset Manager web client.
  2. In the Assets to Review section, click the name of the asset to review. The General Details page for the asset opens. If there are instructions for completing the review, they are provided on the Instructions tab. You can see the details about the current state of the asset lifecycle in the State Summary tab.
  3. In the Assets to Manage section, click the name of the asset. The General Details page for the asset opens.
  4. From the Actions list on the upper-left side of the screen, select the transition. Depending on the complexity of the lifecycle, you will have one or more transitions to choose from.
    Change state list
  5. After you select the transition, click Apply.
  6. If any conditions for the transition are not met, you will see a warning. Correct any issues and repeat steps 4 through 5.

Results

Depending on how the lifecycle is configured, multiple policies might run on an asset when it leaves one state or enters a different state. When the asset is in a different state, your permissions for that asset might be different.
