Find assets by using different search techniques.
About this task
To view a brief demonstration of the various ways to find
reusable assets with Rational® Asset
Manager, you can watch an On Demand Demo here.
Procedure
- You can search using basic keywords or extend the basic
search by using the advanced search fields. To narrow the focus of
your search, apply a filter or a combination of filters
to your keyword searches. Use a combination of filters, such as rating,
community, category, or asset type. You can remove filters in any
order. For example, if you are looking for audit processes
across your organization, you can search for process models in the
entire repository by using the asset type filter "process model."
All of the assets of type "process model" appear in the search results
list. Then narrow your search by typing the keyword "audit." The name,
description, short description, rating, community, category, attributes,
custom attributes, labels, and tags are searched for that keyword.
The assets that have the matching term are displayed.
- You can find assets by using tags. Unlike
filters, tags are defined by any repository user. For example,
if you are looking for audit processes for the way in which departments
track computers and other hardware, you can filter on the asset type
"process model" and filter by clicking the tags in the cloud. You
can choose tags like "inventory," "retired_hardware,"
"physical_assets," or comparable tags that
appear in the tag cloud. The tag count number is the number of times
the tag appears in the repository. If a tag has a count of 32, click
that tag to display all 32 of the assets tagged with that tag in the
search results.
- In the web client, you can subscribe to individual assets
by using Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds or email subscription.
When you subscribe to assets, you receive email or RSS notification
about assets without having to formally search for them individually.
You can also create an email or RSS subscription to search queries
and receive notification for assets that meet the criteria of that
search. To receive updates on assets that are related to assets that
you subscribe to, you must subscribe individually to the related assets.
- To retrieve assets that you have subscribed to, navigate
to My Dashboard or click the URL of the asset
record to open the asset details from your email client.
- To retrieve the most recent version of an asset, see Bookmarking the most recent version of an asset
- You can also view and download related assets from an asset.
To view a list of the related assets you can generate a report by
