Searching for assets

Use basic keywords to search for assets. You can also use search query terms and operators to refine your searches.

Before you begin

You must be connected to a Rational® Asset Manager repository to search assets.

About this task

The primary method of finding assets is to use a keyword search, which compares keywords to information in the following sources of information about an asset:
  • Names
  • Descriptions and short descriptions
  • Ratings
  • Communities
  • Categories
  • Attributes and custom attributes
  • Tags
  • Artifacts, or files within assets

Procedure

  1. Open the Asset Search view. If the Asset Search view is not open, in the Eclipse menu, click Window > Show View > Asset Search.
  2. Type keywords into the search field at the top of the Asset Search view; then, click the magnifying class icon Asset search magnifying glass icon. The Assets view will open and results for your search query will appear in the Assets view.
  3. Optional: Filter your search results using filters and tags:
    1. To see a listing of available filters, in the Asset Search view, click the Filters tab.
    2. To see a tag cloud – a visualization of a repository's tags – in the Asset Search view, click the Tag Cloud tab.
    3. Click any combination of Filters and Tags to filter the search results.
    4. To remove a filter or tag that you have applied, click the filter or tag name under the search keyword field.
  4. Optional: Change the scope of your search by clicking the down arrow in the Asset Search menu bar.Asset Search view menu You can select specific repository connections and adjust the scope of the search with the following options:
    Option Description
Search assets Search for assets (default)
Search within artifacts Search in the content of artifacts attached to assets
Search forums Search the contents of the discussion forums
Search remote assets Search remote assets (assets in another repository such as WebSphere® Service Registry and Repository or Tivoli® Change and Configuration Management Database)
If you are searching for assets across more than one repository and you have created multiple Rational Asset Manager repository connections you can specify more than one connection or select all repository connections to search.

In the Search Scope section for Repositories click Select and then check the connections you want to use in the search or choose Select All.

Results

After running a search or adding or removing a filter or tag, the Assets view will open with the results of your search.
