Lesson 1: Import the sample SOA repository model

In this lesson, you will learn how to import the example service-oriented architecture (SOA) model into the repository.

You must have repository administration permissions to complete this tutorial.

You can manage elements of your repository model such as assets, asset types, categories, and relationships by using repository libraries. You can also reuse elements of your repository model across repositories or use model information that was produced by another application by importing and exporting libraries.

Rational® Asset Manager includes a sample Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) model that includes communities, asset types, categories, and relationships you will use throughout this tutorial. To import the SOA model:

  1. On the Rational Asset Manager web client home page, log in with an account that has master administrative permissions for the repository.
  2. Open the Administration page.
  3. On the sidebar, click Libraries.
  4. In the Import Sample Library section, click Import SOA Model Library to import the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) model.
    Import Sample Library section
Note: If the SOA Model library is already enabled on the server, you will not be able to import it again; the Import Sample Library section will not be available and you can continue to the next lesson.

If the SOA model library has been imported but not enabled, find SOA Model Library under the list of libraries, click the latest version number of the SOA Model library, click Enable, and continue to step 5

  5. On the page for the SOA Model Library, in the Library Actions sidebar click Enable.
  6. Confirm that the information in the SOA library does not conflict with existing assets or metadata on the repository or with assets and metadata that are controlled by other libraries, and click Enable. The assets, asset types, categories, asset attributes, and communities for the SOA library will be enabled on your repository.
  7. Click Administration to return to the list of communities on the repository.

Lesson checkpoint

In this lesson, you learned how to import the sample SOA model into the repository. In the next lesson, you will become familiar with the communities in the model, and learn to create a new community named Repository Configuration. This new community will illustrate one of the best practices to be aware of when you configure your repository.
