Publishing assets to Change and Configuration Management Database

You can publish assets from the IBM® Rational® Asset Manager repository to the IBM Tivoli® Change and Configuration Management Database (CCMDB).

Before you begin

To publish assets from Rational Asset Manager to CCMDB, the Rational Asset Manager repository must be defined as a definitive library in CCMDB. For information on setting up the Rational Asset Manager repository as a CCMDB definitive library, see Integrating with Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database.

Procedure

To publish Rational Asset Manager assets to CCMDB:

  1. Log in to CCMDB and launch Maximo®; for example, http://ccmdb.example.com/maximo/.
  2. Click Go To > Release > Definitive Media Library. You may see "Definitive Software Library" in some earlier versions of CCMDB.
  3. In the Name field, select the name of the definitive library.
  4. Open the Software Images page.
  5. Click Select from OMP.
  6. Select the asset or assets to import as configuration items (CIs). Alternatively, you can select Repository and add a search filter shortcut from the assets page in Rational Asset Manager to the value field for query parameters. Then, when you click Select from OMP, a filtered list appears based on the search in Rational Asset Manager instead of all assets in the repository.
  7. Click OK. A new configuration item is created and is displayed in the list of CIs on the Software Images page.

What to do next

You can view asset configuration items that were published from CCMDB, by following these steps:
  1. Log in to CCMDB and launch Maximo; for example, http://ccmdb.example.com/maximo/.
  2. Click Go To > IT Infrastructure > Configuration Items.
  3. Type the Enter key to search.

The list displays the published Rational Asset Manager assets in CCMDB.

  4. Select a software image from the list.
  5. On the configuration page, select Open in Rational Asset Manager in the actions list.

Rational Asset Manager opens in a new web page.

Note: If your Rational Asset Manager port number is not 9080, you must update two configuration settings with the correct number.

Click Go To > Integration > Launch in Context and update the console URL port number for the LAUNCHTORAM and LAUNCHTORAMACTCI entries.
