Importing Rational ClearCase assets

When you find an IBM® Rational® ClearCase® asset and want to modify its contents, import the asset into your workspace.

Before you begin

Before you import the asset, you must have an active Rational ClearCase repository connection.

Procedure

  1. In the Assets view, right-click the asset name, and then click Import.
  2. Import the asset from Rational ClearCase by using the SCM adapter.
    1. Select Import files through SCM.
    2. Specify how to import the content:
      • For the latest content on the branch that the asset was submitted from, select Import latest from current branch.
      • For content that is on another branch, select Import from other existing branches and type the name of the branch.
      • For content that is on a new branch that will be created when the asset content is checked in, select Import by creating a new branch and type the name of the new branch.
Restriction: Although file versions can be in different branches, an asset can have artifacts from only one branch.
    3. Click OK.
  3. In the Select Shared Folder window, click Browse and select a shared folder on the network.
  4. Enable permissions so that other users can access the folder over the network. To share a folder:
    1. Right-click the folder and select Properties.
    2. In the properties window, click the Sharing tab.
    3. Define the share name and then define full control for authenticated users.
  5. To change the Shared folder later:
    1. Click Window > Preferences > Asset Management > Source Control Management > ClearCase.
    2. In the Shared folder section, click Browse and change the folder. The ClearCase preferences page also shows a record of all of the snapshot views that were created.
  6. Click OK.

Results

The asset is imported into your workspace.

What to do next

If necessary, update the files. Then, check in your changes to Rational ClearCase and submit the updated asset in Rational Asset Manager. If you do not check in all of the contents to Rational ClearCase, you cannot submit the asset to Rational Asset Manager.
