You must have a web server started and synchronized before
you can run web applications.
A web server is a program that delivers responses to HTTP requests
from a web browser. EGL can work with a variety of web servers, many
of which have multiple versions. For this reason this topic can offer
only very general instructions. For more information, refer to the
documentation for the specific Web server software.
Set up a new web server by following these steps:
- Go to and click Add.
- Select the type of runtime to install from the displayed list,
then click Next.
- Enter the path to the directory where the server programs are
located, as well as any other requested information (which varies
with the type of runtime), then click Finish.
If you are in the EGL perspective, you can now add a Server view
to the workbench (). From this view, you
can create a Server based on the Installed Runtime you just created.
- Right-click anywhere in the blank Server view and select from
the pop-up menu.
- Select the server type from the list. Your Server runtime should
appear automatically in the appropriate text box. Click Next.
- Accept the default server settings on the next page and click Next.
- Add any projects that will use the server to the Configured projects
list. If you use an EAR project, the projects that use the EAR will
appear underneath it. Click Finish when you
are done.
You should now be able to right-click the name of the server in
the Server view and choose Start from the pop-up
menu.
