Editing a transformation parameters file

The transformation parameters file allows you to customize the transformation of UML model to source code.

Follow these steps to edit the transformation parameters file:

  1. Open the TPM file by double-clicking it in the Project Explorer view. Alternately, you can right-click a UML model that is associated with a TPM file and then click Edit Transformation Parameters.

The transformation parameters file opens in the editor. The left side of this editor is a table that matches the elements in the UML file with the transformations applied to those elements. The rows of the table are the elements in the UML model, which you can expand and contract with the + and - buttons.

The columns in the table represent the transformations applied to the UML model. A check mark symbol in a transformation's column indicates that the transformation will be applied to the associated UML element.

  2. To apply a transformation to an element in the UML model, right-click the UML element and then click the name of the transformation from the popup menu. The check mark symbol appears in the row of the UML element and in the column of the selected transformation.

Depending on the type of transformation, you may want to apply the transformation to the root element of the UML model or to any of its child elements. When you apply a transformation to a parent element, the editor does not automatically apply that transformation to the child elements.

If you do not see the transformation you want to apply to the UML element, that transformation may not be enabled in the editor. See Selecting the available transformations.

  3. To edit the parameters associated with a transformation, click the check mark symbol in the transformation's column and in the UML element's row.

Because the transformation parameters apply to a particular UML element and a particular transformation, make sure you have clicked the correct check mark symbol. The parameters available to be set are different for each transformation and for each type of UML element.

When you have clicked a check mark symbol, the parameters for the selected transformation and for the selected UML element appear in the right side of the transformation parameters editor. Not all combinations of UML elements and transformations have parameters.

When you enter the parameters for a transformation, you must be careful to enter values that are valid in the source code format, especially for names.

  4. Edit the parameters for the selected transformation and UML element on the right side of the transformation parameters editor.
  5. When you are finished, save and close the TPM file.
