License activation

Whether you are installing software for the first time or are extending a license to continue using the product, you have options to enable your product license.

Licenses for this product are enabled in two ways:

Note: If you are using a trial license, it will expire after a preset amount of time after you install the product. To use the product after the trial license expires, you must activate a either a permanent or floating license for your product.

Activation kits

A license activation kits contain the permanent license key for your product. You purchase the activation kit, download the activation kit compressed file, and then import the activation kit JAR file to enable the license for your product. Use IBM® Installation Manager to import the activation kit to your product.

Floating license enforcement

Optionally, you can obtain floating license keys, install IBM Rational License Server, and enable floating license enforcement for your product.

Important: If you use floating licenses for your product, including token licenses, you must upgrade your license key server to Rational License Key Server, Version 8.1.1, before installing the product. You can use Rational License Key Server, Version 8.1.1 with earlier versions of the product.
