This topic describes how to install a feature from an update
site into the Developer for System z® environment, how to update an installed feature, and how to
uninstall a feature.
After a feature containing a new custom rule plug-in is published
on an update site, the final step is to install the feature into the
Developer for System z environment.
This topic contains the following subtopics:
Making an update site available
to others
To enable other groups to install
the features from an update site, you must copy the folders and the
files in the update site to a shared directory or jar file that is
located on a network or on a web site. The copied files must include:
- The features folder and its contents.
- The plugins folder and its contents.
- The content.xml and the artifacts.xml file, which contain metadata
for the features and plugins.
- The update.xml file, which describes the update site.
Installing a feature
Follow
these steps to install a feature from an update site to the Developer
for System z environment:
- On main menu click . The Install
wizard opens.
- On the first page of the Install wizard, titled Available Software:
- Select the update site containing the feature that
you want to install.
Note: In the Install wizard an update site is
referred to as a repository.
- Expand the Work with list and select the
update site containing the feature that you want to install.
- If the update site that you want is not in the list:
- Add the update site to the list:
- Click Add. The Add Repository window opens.
- In the window:
- Enter a name for the new repository in the Name field.
- Click Local if the update site that you
want is in a file directory, or Archive if
it is in a archive file.
- Navigate to the location of the update site and select the file
directory or archive file.
- Click OK.
The update site is added to the Work with list.
- Select the update site that you just added.
The features in the selected update site are displayed in the
feature tree.
- In the feature tree, expand the category to which
your feature belongs and select the check box for the feature that
you want to install.
Tip: - If you do not see the feature, you might need to expand the category
to which the feature belongs, or expand the Uncategorized node
if the feature does not belong to a category.
- To see all of the versions of the feature that are included in
the update site, clear the check box Show only the latest
versions of available software.
- Click Next.
The wizard validates your
selection against the software that is already installed:
- The wizard displays an error message if there are configuration
problems or conflicts that might prevent your feature from being installed.
- Otherwise, the wizard displays its second page.
- On the second page of the wizard, titled Install Details:
- Use this page to review the feature description, copyright information,
general information, and license agreement for this feature.
Note: The
text areas in which this information is displayed are read only.
- Select the feature.
- The feature description is displayed in the Details text
area.
- To review the copyright, general information, and license agreement,
click More.
- Click Finish. However, if your feature
contains a software license agreement, then the Finish button
is disabled and you must click Next.
- If you had to click Next on the second
page of the wizard, then the wizard displays its third page, Review
Licenses:
- If you accept the license agreement then click Accept
the terms of the license agreement.
- Click Finish.
- When you click Finish the wizard installs
the selected feature into the Developer for System z environment.
- If you are prompted to restart Developer for System z, click your choice. Unless you
have unprocessed input somewhere in the product, you should select Restart
Now.
Uninstalling a feature
This
topic describes how to uninstall a feature from the Developer for System z environment.
To
uninstall a feature:
- On the main menu click .
- In the About window:
- Click Installation Details.
- In the Installation Details window:
- Click the Installed Software tab.
- Click the feature that you want to uninstall.
- Click Uninstall. The Uninstall wizard opens.
- In the wizard:
- On the Uninstall Details page the wizard lists the feature that
you selected to be uninstalled. If a particular item is expandable,
expanding it shows the additional items that are uninstalled if the
primary item is uninstalled.
Note: If you decide not to uninstall a
feature:
- Click Back. The wizard displays its Uninstall
page.
- Clear the check box for the feature that you do not want to uninstall.
- Click Cancel to cancel the uninstall.
- When you are ready click Finish.
- The wizard uninstalls the selected feature.
- If you are prompted to restart Developer for System z, click your choice. Unless you
have unprocessed input somewhere in the product, you should select Restart
Now.
Updating an installed feature
Users who want to install an update that is available
immediately or that will be available within a few days can use the
methods described in Checking for updates to features.
If you need to manually replace an installed feature
with a more recent version, follow these steps:- Uninstall the current version, following the instructions in the
previous topic Uninstalling a feature.
- Install the more recent version, following the instructions in
the first topic Installing a feature.
