The Workbook is the area of the CODE Designer where you design display files or printer files. You can view this notebook on the top right-hand side of the CODE Designer window. It contains the following views:
The Details page provides a detailed view of the DDS objects selected by the DDS Tree. You can view this page in either details mode or list mode.
In details mode, columns display information about each DDS object. You can use this mode if you want to know more about each DDS object (record, help specification, field, keyword, or keys).
In list mode, the DDS objects appear as columns of named icons. You can use this mode if you want to see more DDS objects within the page.
The Design page shows the DDS source as it would appear on either a screen (for display files) or a printed page (for printer files). It allows you to design your application's screens or reports by laying out records and fields in a graphical user interface.
On the Design page, you can easily create, edit, resize, and move DDS objects graphically. Create new records, fields, and constants directly on the Design page by using the palette pushbuttons to the left of the Design area or from the pop-up menus. The toolbar above the Design area allows quick access to many of the editing features as well as information about the currently selected object.
For more information on the functions you can perform in this view, see the CODE Designer basics.
The Source page alternates between being a view-only tokenized display and
a fully enabled source editor. When in display mode, press
to refresh the Source page. Normally the source page is refreshed upon
loading a file into the editor and every time the DDS is verified. You
can press
to switch into editor mode. In editor mode you can use the full power
of the CODE Editor: for prompts, press F4; for block commands,
press Alt-L to select a line, Alt-M to move, and Alt-C to copy; and the
CODE Editor command line, press Esc. For more commands and view options
that are available while in Edit mode, browse through the Edit and View
menus.
The action Verify file will work against the source in the
editor and display the results in the Error list in the Utility
notebook. You can press
to go back to design mode.
The Verify Listing page is a listing of the source statements generated by the program verifier. It contains information about the source program and the errors that are found by the program verifier.
The Verify Listing page provides you with information regarding the correctness of the syntax and the semantic structure of your DDS code. This information helps you correct any errors through a source editor.
