Insert

Select an item from the Insert pull-down menu to create a new DDS object to the current page. The following list contains information for each of the specific menu selections on the Insert menu. The CODE Designer creates new objects by using the Creation defaults that are specified on the Styles page of the Properties notebook.

Group (only in the DDS Tree)
Creates a group which associates multiple records with one screen. The CODE Designercreates a Design page tab in the Workbook for this new group. When the CODE Designer creates an group, the Group properties notebook appears where you can change any of its settings.

Record
Creates a new record on the Design page. For display files, you can create the following record types:
Standard
A default record.
Subfile
Creates both the subfile and subfile control records which define a list on the screen.
Message subfile (only in the DDS Tree or Details view)
Creates both the subfile and subfile control records which define a list of messages from a program's queue.

Named field
Creates a field that your program can read and update at run time.

Continued field
Creates a named field which can wrap the application user's input into several rows in a rectangular area of the screen.

Date field
Creates a field that contains a date and can be read or updated by your program at runtime.

Time field
Creates a field that stores time and can be read or updated by your program at runtime.

Timestamp field
Creates a field which stores timestamp information.

Database reference
Creates a field which references the description of an existing field in a database file.

Source reference
Creates a field which references the description of another field in the current source file.

Text constant
Creates a constant field that contains text.

Message constant
Creates a constant field that displays a message from a message file.

Date constant
Creates a constant field that contains the system date.

Time constant
Creates a constant field that contains the system time.

User name
Creates a constant field that contains your applications user's iSeries user name.

System name
Creates a constant field that contains your applications user's iSeries system name

Help specification
Specifies which area of the display provides context-sensitive help.

Keywords
Takes you to the Create Keywords page, from which you can add keywords to the selected object.
