Limitations on ILE COBOL in a Multithreaded Environment
Some ILE COBOL applications depend on subsystems or other applications. In
a multithreaded environment, these dependencies result in some limitations
on ILE COBOL programs:
- SORT/MERGE
- SORT and MERGE should only be active in one thread at a time. However,
this is not enforced by the COBOL run-time environment-- it must be controlled
by the application.
- External and shared files
- External and shared files should not be accessed or updated simultaneously
from multiple threads. However, this is not enforced by the COBOL run-time
environment-- it must be controlled by the application.
In general, synchronizing access to resources visible to an application
within a run unit is the responsibility of the application.
