Opening an existing DDS display or printer file

Screen Designer is the default editor for display files and Report Designer is the default editor for printer files. You can choose an alternative editor, such as the Remote Systems LPEX Editor, by using the Open with menu item. You can also change the default editor associated with any particular file extension.

To open an existing display file or printer file for editing, double-click it in the Remote Systems view or the i Project Navigator view. Alternately, for a display file you can right-click it and select Open with > Screen Designer, for a printer file select Open with > Report Designer. This may be needed if the default editor associated with the .dspf or .prtf file extensions has been changed.

When Screen Designer or Report Designer open for a DDS display or printer file, the source is analyzed. This step has to finish before you can start editing. An indicator at the lower right of the workbench with the label Parsing DDS model displays while this is running. If you edited your display file with CODE Designer before, see Migrating from CODE Designer for additional considerations.
