The field could not be split at the location you specified with the
cursor.
All fields are split at the current cursor position. In display
files the cursor position is deleted to make room for the attribute byte for
the new field on the right. In printer files, the character under the
cursor will become the first character of the new field on the right.
The following rules govern where a field can be split:
- No field can be split on the first character because there would be no
field on the left.
- In display files, no field can be split on the last character because
there would be no field on the right.
- If a DBCS character is being split, it is converted to blanks. You
cannot split a DBCS field such that either resultant field only consists of
blanks that are generated by the split operation. This would happen
if:
- a field begins with DBCS characters and it is split in the first 3
single-byte character positions.
- a field ends with DBCS characters and it is split in the last 4
single-byte character positions in display file, or the last 3 in printer
file.
Response: Move the cursor to a valid location within the
text field that you want to split.
