Exporting or importing a set of rules

This topic describes how to export or import code review rules from the analysis configuration editor to a local rule file. A rule file is required to run the code review application on the command line.

Exporting rules to a rule file

Before you begin

Note: The exported information includes a set of rules and their assigned severities, copied from a selected analysis configuration. It does not include scope information.

Procedure

To export a set of rules from the analysis configuration editor:

  1. In the editor:
    1. In the left pane, select an analysis configuration.
    2. In the right pane, on the Rules tab, click Export.
  2. In the Save As file window:
    1. Type or click the path of the file to contain the exported rule information, called a rule file. The file extension must be .dat.
    2. Click Save.

Results

The rule information is written to the specified rule file.

Importing rules from a rule file

Before you begin

Note: The imported information includes a set of rules and their assigned severities. It does not include scope information.

Procedure

To import a set of rules into a selected analysis configuration:

  1. In the analysis configuration editor:
    1. In the left pane, select the analysis configuration into which you want to import rule information.
    2. In the right pane, on the Rules tab, click Import.
  2. In the Open file window:
    1. Type or click the path of a previously exported rule file. The extensions must be .dat.
    2. Click Open.

Results

The rule information is imported into the Rules tab of the selected analysis configuration. Any prior rule information is overwritten.
