Overview

IBM® Rational® Developer for System z® allows you to use any text editor for your COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, and C++ source files and provides the following editors for specialized purposes:
System z LPEX Editor
LPEX is an extensible editor framework that can be enhanced by plugin providers and users. Rational Developer for System z extends the base LPEX editor to provide functions that are particularly useful as you develop COBOL, PL/I, and HLASM (High Level Assembler) programs for the System z platform. This enhanced version of LPEX is called the System z LPEX Editor.
COBOL Editor
The COBOL Editor is an Eclipse-based editor that provides the familiarity and features of other Eclipse-based editors (such as for C++ and Java™ languages) while also providing language-specific enhancements such as syntax highlighting, refactoring, and source actions.
PL/I Editor
The PL/I Editor is an Eclipse-based editor that provides the familiarity and features of other Eclipse-based editors (such as for C++ and Java languages) while also providing language-specific enhancements such as syntax highlighting, refactoring, and source actions.
Remote C/C++ Editor
Enables you to edit local or remote C/C++ files.
Remote Makefile Editor
Enables you to edit local or remote C++ makefiles.
