Positions 1 through 44 of a DDS statement are for fixed-format entries called positional entries. Positional entries define the most common attributes of record formats and fields, such as names and lengths of fields. When you are defining a DDS file, you must enter the code according to its syntax structure. The position in the DDS statement determines what type of information is permissable. This is also dependant of the DDS file type.
