Creating a database reference field

A database reference field is a field which reflects data from a field that is located in your AS/400 database. To create a single database reference field on the Design page, perform the following steps:

  1. Position your cursor on the record that will contain this field.
  2. From the Insert menu, select Field. Select Database reference from the cascading menu which appears.

    Click on from the Design page palette and then click on the Design area to create the field.
  3. The properties notebook for this field appears.

    If you know the name and location of the reference field, simply type them in the properties notebook and go to step 8.
  4. Click on Browse.
  5. Select the library, file, and record from the AS/400 library list for the referenced field.
  6. Select the display file reference field and press OK.
  7. You can also change the usage of the field, give it a unique name or change its position on this page.
  8. To customize this field, go to the Override page and override the inherited attributes of this field.
Fastpath:
From the Tools menu, select Select database fields. A dialog appears where you can select the reference fields and create all the corresponding database reference fields in the currently selected record. This method is useful if you are creating a number of fields from the same database.
