Using different editors in the Remote System Explorer

Before you begin

You can use a selection of editors for your objects and files listed in the Remote Systems view. You can edit IBM® i members using the Remote Systems LPEX editor and Remote Systems LPEX browser. (You can also use the CODE editor and CODE browser if the CODE tools are installed.) When editing local files, IFS files, or files from other remote systems such as Linux, UNIX or Windows systems, you can choose from all editors registered in the workbench for the type of file you want to open.
Note: You can switch between files you have open in the editor view by pressing CTRL+F6.

About this task

To use different editors:

Procedure

  1. In the Remote Systems view, expand your connection and then expand Objects.
  2. Drill down through the list until you find the file you want to open. The initial default for items (when you double-click) is the Remote Systems LPEX editor. Right-click your file if you want to open it in a different editor or in a different mode.

What to do next

Go to Window > Preferences and then to Workbench > File Associations in the Preferences window to associate more editors with your IBM i file types.
