Use this page of the System z® LPEX Editor preferences to enable the System z LPEX Editor to display margin lines
for quickly and easily checking column alignments in a PL/I file.
To enable margin lines, click one of the following check boxes.
To disable margin lines, clear the check box. Changing these preferences
updates every open instance of the editors. By default, these margin
lines are disabled.
- Enable left margin line
- Enables a vertical margin line at the column number indicated.
- Enable right margin line
- Enables a vertical margin at the column number indicated.
For PL/I, in addition to the margin settings, which
affect the parsing of the text, there is also the fields setting,
which divides the edit area into different edit fields, preventing
text from moving from one field to another when characters are inserted
or deleted. Although they are different settings, margins and fields
are closely related. Whenever you change the margins in PL/I using
this preference, the fields are adjusted as well. For example, if
the right margin value in the preference is specified as 75 and the
fields option is set to "1 73 81," then the fields setting is adjusted
to "1 75 81".
Note: The MARGINS compilation option [such as MARGINS (3, 75)] overrides
the values set in this preference page.
