A record is a set of related data treated as a unit and is then grouped for processing. It is a logical unit of data which can contain multiple sets of fields. These sets usually have identifiers attached to them. For instance, a record can contain template requirements for database files and variable requirements for display files.
Depending on the DDS file type, the number of records a file can accomodate can differ. A physical file can only contain a single record format. Whereas, a logical file can contain one or more record formats (based on the number of physical files it references). Alternatively, each record of a display file defines a separate screen.
