A database reference field is a field which reflects data from a field that
is located in your AS/400 database. To create a single database
reference field on the Design page, perform the following steps:
- Position your cursor on the record that will contain this field.
- From the Insert menu, select Field. Select
Database reference from the cascading menu which appears.
- Fastpath:
- Click on
from the Design page palette and then click on the Design area to create the
field.
- The properties notebook for this field appears.
- Fastpath:
- If you know the name and location of the reference field, simply type them in
the properties notebook and go to step 8.
- Click on Browse.
- Select the library, file, and record from the AS/400 library list for the
referenced field.
- Select the display file reference field and press OK.
- You can also change the usage of the field, give it a unique name or
change its position on this page.
- To customize this field, go to the Override page
and override the inherited attributes of this field.
- Fastpath:
- From the Tools menu, select Select database
fields. A dialog appears where you can select the reference
fields and create all the corresponding database reference fields in the
currently selected record. This method is useful if you are creating a
number of fields from the same database.
