Working with preprocessors within the editor

There are several actions that can be performed when preprocessor statements are included in a file. If a preprocessor is not already associated with the file you can associate a processor or associate the file with a different preprocessor.

About this task

After a preprocessor is assigned to a file, it can be used to perform the following actions:
  • Identify preprocessor statements using the preprocessor
  • Identify preprocessor statements using an existing preprocessor output file
  • Clear any preprocessor statements that are identified
  • Configure a preprocessor
  • Update preferences related to preprocessors

Access the preprocessor actions within an open file by right-mouse clicking and select Source > Preprocessor Statements.

The Identify Using Configured Preprocessor action, locates preprocessor statements within the file by invoking the preprocessor associated with the file. Preprocessor statements are replaced code as defined by the preprocessor. These statements are highlighted based on the settings of the Syntax Coloring preference. The default annotation for preprocessor statements is a vertical blue line at the left side of the editor.

When a preprocessor is invoked, the editor can perform limited validation on the code created by the preprocessor. This code is treated as other code in the file.

The code inserted by the preprocessor persists when the file is saved. To remove preprocessor generated code, select the Clear Identifications action.
