Ending, holding, or releasing a job

About this task

The Remote System Explorer contains a Jobs subsystem, in the Remote Systems view. The subsystem contains many categories for IBM® i jobs, such as Active Jobs (any jobs active on the your IBM i server), My Active Jobs (any active IBM i jobs that you own), and My Jobs (all of your active or inactive jobs), and so on.

Through the Jobs subsystem, you can end, hold, or release your job:
  1. In the Remote Systems view, expand your connection, and expand Jobs.
  2. Expand Active Jobs, or My Active Jobs, and so on. (see the related concept for more information on different types of jobs).
  3. If applicable, expand the relevant IBM i subsystem for the job category.
  4. Right-click the job you want to end, hold, or release:
    • To end a job, select:
      • End > Controlled (to allow programs running in the job to perform their end-of-job cleanup)
      • End > Immediate (to use if a job is frozen and the Controlled option fails)
    • To hold a job, right-click and select Hold. If your job is in the Scheduled state, Hold ensures that the job does not start to run as it otherwise would according to job scheduling. If your job is in the Active state, Hold will pause the job. If your job is in the Finished state, Hold marks the spool files as Held, and certain operations on the output queue will bypass these Held files.
    • To release a job from the held state, right-click the job and select Release.
