Creating an i Project

You can create an i Project to provide yourself with a workspace on your local workstation that will contain local code for a project. You can work while disconnected with the i Project Navigator, and occasionally perform synchronization to build your project and push your work to the server.

Before you begin

To create an i Project:

Procedure

  1. Switch to the i Projects perspective. From the workbench menu, click Window > Open Perspective > Other > i Projects.
  2. From the workbench menu, select File > New > Other.
  3. On the New wizard, select IBM i > Local > IBM i Project.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Specify the name of the new i Project in the Project name field and click Next.
  6. On the i Project Properties page, select an existing connection, or click New to create one.
  7. In the Associated library field, specify the name of the library on the IBM® i server that will contain the build objects for this project. If this library does not exist on the remote server, it will be created the first time that you push your code to the IBM i server.
  8. Click Finish.

What to do next

To start using i Projects, you will need to populate them with source physical files and members. You can do this by creating new source files and members locally, or by importing remote objects from the i server. Refer to the links below for more information on these tasks.

To share a project:

If you want to share your i Project with your team by specifying a common repository, right-click your project and select Team > Share Project. Enter your repository location information in the dialog box and click Finish.
