Converting IBM i job logs from the Profiling and Logging perspective

While running a job, you can use the Log and Trace Analyzer to import a log file from an IBM® i job log into the Profiling and Logging perspective. This topic describes starting Log and Trace Analyzer from the Profiling and Logging perspective.

Procedure

  1. In the Profiling and Logging perspective, in the Log Navigator view, right-click and select Import.
  2. In the Import dialog box, expand Profiling and Logging, select Log File, and click Next.
  3. On the Import Log File page, click Add.
  4. On the Add Log File page, select the log type IBM i job log. Click the Host name tab and type or select the remote host name. Click Test connection to ensure that Agent Controller is active. See Deploying Agent Controller and IBM i Log and Trace Analyzer.
  5. Click the Details tab and type the specific job log information.
  6. Click OK and then Finish on the Import Log File page. The conversion process starts. When the conversion finishes, the generated Common Base Events display in the Log view.

What to do next

You can re-import a log file that you previously generated. On the Details page, select Import existing log file , and specify the location of the log file.
Note: The Profiling and Logging tools and menu items might be hidden when you first try to use them. In this case you must enable the Tester capability.
  1. On the main workbench menu bar, select Window > Preferences.
  2. In the left pane, expand Workbench and select Capabilities.
  3. In the right pane, expand Tester and select Profiling and Logging. Click OK. This enables the required capability.
