Exporting resources to a remote file system

You can export files from a local workspace project to a remote file system. If you are exporting Java™ files, you only need to export the program, and not the source files, because you can compile the source locally first, and then export the program files within a Jar file. For any other type of project, you need to export the source files since they are compiled on the server.

About this task

See Importing resources from a remote file system for information on importing server files for your local project.

To export resources from the workbench:

Procedure

  1. Right-click your project and select Export. You can also select File > Export from the workbench menu. The Export wizard opens.
  2. Select Remote Jar file for Java programs, so that you can export the built jar file, or Remote file system for any other type of project that contains resources you want to export. Click Next.
  3. Use the left and right panes to select resources to export. Choose individual resources from the right pane, or entire folders from the left pane.
  4. In the To directory or Jar file field, click Browse to specify the destination folder on the remote server for your project files. When you click Browse, you can navigate to a server that is already defined with a connection (from the Remote System Explorer) or you can expand New Connection to make a connection to a remote server, where you enter a connection name and the IP address or host name of the server.
  5. (Optional) Select the check box to overwrite (without prompting) files of the same name in the remote folder.
  6. For file systems, select one of the radio buttons to either replicate the workspace path folder structure in the remote system or create only the actual folders you have selected.
  7. For file systems, you can save the settings of the export action as a description file in the workspace, for later reuse, so that you do not need to complete the wizard every time you want to export resources. Check the Save the settings of this export in the workspace and specify a directory for the description file in the Description file field.
  8. For Jar files, click Next. When you export Jar files, you can also save the settings of the export action as a description file in the workspace, for later reuse, so that you do not need to complete the wizard every time you want to export resources. Check the Save the settings of this JAR file in the workspace and specify a directory for the description file in the Description file field.
  9. Click Finish to export the resources to the remote system.
