To open an existing DDS printer file for editing with Report Designer,
right-click it in the Remote Systems view, the i Project Navigator
view, or the Navigator view and select Open with > Report
Designer.
Report Designer opens for the selected printer file with two pages, Design page
and Source page. The Design page is displayed.
The
Design page is used to visually build
and change your DDS printer file. The page is divided into three areas:
- The main design area shows a graphical representation of the printer
file and at the same time shows you how the printed page will look.
- The integrated palette contains record and field palette items
that you can drag onto the design area to create new records and fields.
Alternatively, you can use the workbench Palette view. See Palette for more details.
- Above the design area is the Report controls area.
You use it for defining and managing reports. A report is a Report
Designer concept that lets you simulate a group of records that are
printed together when your application runs. You can create new reports
and delete existing reports, and then add records to the report or
remove existing records from it. The same record can be added once
or multiple times to a report. The All records report
is always available and contains all of the records. You cannot modify
this report, but you can create and edit records without creating
a user defined report first.
