About this task
Before you can take advantage of all the functions available in the
Object Table view, you need to know how to populate the view. The Object Table
view takes the selected object in the Remote Systems view as input, and displays
the contents in the table. You can also use the
Work with actions
from the Object Table view toolbar itself to populate the view. To work from
the Remote Systems view to populate the Object Table view:
Procedure
- Expand your tree in the Remote Systems view until you see the library
that contains the files, or file that contains the members you want to see
in the Object Table view.
- Right-click the object and select Show in Table.
- For libraries, this step displays the objects inside the library,
their types, attributes, text description, and status. If you also want to
see the last modified dates, creation dates, and sizes, click the Table view
drop-down arrow and select .
- For display files, this step displays file names, records, types,
lengths, and text description.
- For source physical files, this step displays the members inside,
their names, types, attributes, text descriptions, and status.
- For data physical files, this step displays members and fields in
a cascading format. For members, their names, types, attributes, text descriptions,
and status display. For fields, their names, records, types, lengths, and
text descriptions display.
Results
To specify input within the Object Table view itself, using the
Work
with actions, click the drop-down menu

from the view, select , , or ,
and add specifications to define what the Object Table view displays. The
Work
with dialog boxes are the same as the ones you use in the Remote
Systems view. See the related links for more information on these dialog boxes.
Tips:- Click any of the column titles to sort by that attribute, for example,
click Size to sort the items by size, which sorts them
from smallest to largest. Click the same attribute again to reverse the order
that the items are sorted, for example, click Size again
to sort from largest to smallest.
- You can navigate through items in the view by double-clicking files or
libraries. This action repopulates the view with the content of the file or
library, similar to how you navigate through files in Windows Explorer.
When you get down to editable items, such as a member, double-click the item
to open it in the default editor for that type of item.
- To print the list of items in the view, click the drop-down menu
from the view and select Print.
- To view or change the preferences for the Object Table view, click the
drop-down menu
from the view
and select Preferences.
- The view supports Windows keyboard shortcuts. For example,
press Ctrl-A to select all of the items.
