Export configuration files to a host so that they can be
automatically distributed to client development workbenches. You can
export database connections, preferences,
remote systems artifacts, editor templates, and snippets..
Before you begin
Only users that have write permission to the directory where
configurations are stored can export to a host. Usually this is an
administrator. For information about the default directory for a configuration
and how to change it, see
Change the remote host destination path of the configuration.
Procedure
- Open the export configuration dialog. Click . The dialog opens.
- Select the configuration items that you want to export. For example, you can select Remote Systems Artifacts, Database
Connections, Eclipse Preferences, Editor Templates. If you
expand Eclipse Preferences, you will see a
list of the preference files that will be exported. If a description
is available, it will be displayed in the Description column.
Click Next.
- Choose the remote host to export the configuration to. When a developer connects to the remote host, they can pick
up the configuration that you have exported. The default location
that a configuration is exported to is /QIBM/ProdData/Devtools/clientconfig/.
Click Next.
- Set the version and whether to force updates. You
can set a version number directly or accept the number that is automatically
set in Configuration Version. If you have exported
a configuration previously, the version number will increment automatically.
Client environments picking up a configuration will automatically
look for a configuration with the highest version number. If you want
configuration updates to be mandatory for clients connecting to the
server, select Force Updates. If you select Force
Updates, if a user does not accept the update when they
connect to the server, they will be disconnected.
- Click Finish to export the configuration
to the server. If you are not connected to the server,
you will be prompted to connect. If you do not have write permission
to the location on your server where configurations are saved, you
will not be able to export the configuration.
