Subsetting objects in the Object Table view

About this task

When dealing with a long list of objects, you can subset and reorganize them in the Object Table view, based on the following rules:
Field Description
Name You can subset based on a single object name or a combination of letters and an asterisk. For example, enter Q* to list all the files beginning with the letter Q. You can also use *Q* or Q*R
Type You can subset based on a valid type, a generic input such as Name, or you can select from the drop-down list.
Attribute You can subset based on a valid attribute, or select one from the drop-down list.
Text You can subset based on letters or words. This field is case-sensitive. Unlike the other fields, however, do not use asterisks. For example, do not enter *OUTPUT* to find all cases of text that contains OUTPUT. Instead, only enter OUTPUT.
Size (only applicable if you selected Additional Information from the view's drop-down menu) Use the From and To fields to enter.

To subset a list of objects:

Procedure

  1. In the populated Object Table view, click the drop-down menu from the Object Table view and select Subset. See the related link for information on how to display items in the view.
  2. Subset your information by Name, Type, Attribute or Text. See the table above for information on what to put in each field, and see the related reference link at the bottom of this page for information on subsetting rules.
  3. Click OK and the table displays the information specified in the Subset dialog box.

Results

After you subset a list, the title bar changes to reflect the new set of items. To revert back to the original display of all items in the table, click the drop-down menu from the Object Table view and select Show All.
