The IBM® i Log
and Trace Analyzer converts IBM i job
logs and message queues to Common Base Event format. This topic shows how
to set preferences when starting Log and Trace Analyzer from the Remote System
Explorer.
Before you begin
Note: The Profiling and Logging tools and menu items might be hidden
when you first try to use them. In this case you must enable the Tester capability.
- On the main workbench menu bar, select .
- In the left pane, expand Workbench and select Capabilities.
- In the right pane, expand Tester and select Profiling
and Logging. Click OK. This enables the
required capability.

You can now set your preferences.
Procedure
- Select .
- In the left pane, expand Profiling and Logging and
select i
Log and Trace Analyzer.
- In the right pane, set your preferences:
- If you select Download log to workstation,
logs that you import are copied to your local workstation by default.
- If you select Use generated file, a log file
is generated for you. Otherwise, you must specify the file.
- Use the Default log file folder field to specify
the folder where you want the log file to be placed.
