Editing an existing type

Before you begin

Named types enable scoping of user actions for one or more resource types. For example, an IBM-supplied named type of JAVASCRIPT consists of .js files, the GRAPHIC type consists of .bmp, .gif, and .jpg files, and so on. Named types make it easy to match one or more resource types to a collection of files. You might want to edit an existing type to change the kinds of files that are scoped. You can not edit IBM-supplied types, but you can create a new type based on an IBM-supplied type by using copy and paste. To work with named types:

Procedure

  1. In the Remote Systems view, right-click on a file subsystem, and select Work With > Named Types .
  2. On the Work With Named Types window, select one of the named types on the left side of the window, or click New named type.
    • If you selected an existing type, you can change the file type associated by selecting and deselecting file extensions in the extension list.
    • If you selected to create a new named type, enter a name for the type, and then select the file extensions that will represent that name.
    • If you copied and pasted a type, select the copy and edit it as you would an existing type. You can also edit the name.
  3. Click Apply or click Revert to undo all modifications.
  4. Click Close.
