Creating a job filter

About this task

At any time, a number of jobs are running on your IBM® i server. You, or other members of your team, might be performing different actions at the same time. To keep track of jobs, use the Remote System Explorer's Jobs subsystem to identify subsets of server jobs and view job information. The Jobs subsystem uses filters to select which jobs to display in the Remote Systems view. When you create a job filter, all jobs that match its criteria are listed in the Remote Systems view (when you expand the filter). You can also track jobs in the Job Status view.

To create a filter:

Procedure

  1. From the Remote System view, right-click Jobs and select New > Job Filter.
  2. Specify a job name in the Job name field, for example, NF* to list all jobs that begin with NF.
  3. Specify a job user in the Job user field, for example, if you want to find jobs that belong to your user ID or someone else's.
  4. Specify a job number in the Job number field, if you know the exact number of the job you want to track. You can leave this field (and any other the other two previous fields) as an asterisk, which will search all jobs.
  5. Optional specifications are:
    • Select Active to display jobs that are currently active. Specify a current user profile or a particular IBM i subsystem to further define your new job filter.
    • Select the Current user profile you want to use for the job filter.
    • Select an i subsystem that you want to use for the job filter.
    • Select Job queue to display jobs in the job queue.
    • Select Output queue to display jobs in the output queue.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Specify a name for this new filter.
  8. Check the Only create filter in this connection check box if you want the filter to display only in your current connection. Otherwise, it displays in all your connections.
  9. Select a profile to own the new job filter. Select Team only if you need to share the new job filter with members of your team.
  10. (Optional) Click Next to read more about filters.
  11. Click Finish.
