You can create custom categories, export or import them,
save them, delete them, and reset them to their default state.
Creating a custom category
Procedure
To open the Custom Rules and Categories page
of the Preferences, click Windows > Preferences > Software Analyzer > Custom Rules and Categories.
Click Add Category. The Add
Category wizard opens.
Select a parent category for the new custom category:
The COBOL Code Review domain.
A regular category, such as Program Structures.
Another custom category.
Click Next.
Type a name for the new category and then click Finish.
Results
The custom category is created. When you create a custom category
and add rules to it, the new custom category is displayed in the software analysis configuration window, as a new rule category
under the analysis domain COBOL Code Review or PL/I Code Review.
As with regular rules, you can then select the custom rules that you
want to be active in a particular software analysis configuration.
Exporting, importing, and other tasks
About this task
On the Custom Rules and Categories preference
page, you can also export and import categories, delete a category,
and restore the list of categories to the system default.
Procedure
To export all the current custom categories and their rules
to a file, click Export and specify a file
folder and a file name. Export saves a copy of all
the currently displayed custom categories and their rules into a single
data file. The existing contents of the file, if any, are discarded.
Export cannot be used to save individual custom categories or rules.
To import a group of previously exported custom categories
and their contained rules, click Import and
select a file to import from. The file must be one that
was created by a previous export operation.
Attention: Be
careful not to import a category with the same name as a currently
displayed category. In such a case, the import operation tries to
merge the imported category with the currently displayed category,
with unpredictable results. For this reason, you might want to export
and delete all the currently displayed categories before you import
other categories. You can quickly delete the currently displayed categories
by clicking Restore Defaults.
Import copies all the custom categories from an export
file into the Current Custom Categories list.
Import cannot be used to import individual categories or rules.
To delete a custom category, select the category and click Delete
Category.
To empty the list of custom categories and the list of
custom rules, click Restore Defaults.
