Creating source physical files

About this task

You can create new source physical files from the Objects subsystem or the Commands subsystem. The advantage of the Objects subsystem is that you can navigate through your libraries to the location where you want to create the file, and the advantage of the Commands subsystem is that you can specify more parameters. (The second method is for more advanced users.)

Method 1: To create a source physical file in the Objects subsystem:

Procedure

  1. In the Remote Systems view, expand your connection, and expand Objects > Library list.
  2. Right-click the library in which you want to create the source physical file, and select New > Source Physical File.
  3. Enter the name of the source file you want to create, or click Browse to retrieve a source file from a specific library. If you choose to browse to an existing source file, you need rename it after it appears in the File field.
  4. Enter the record length for the source file.
  5. (Optional) Add a description in the Text field.
  6. (Optional) Click Next to define advanced features for your source file, such as Authority, Coded character set ID, or ICG data.
  7. Click Finish.
