Fast Open for IBM i members

About this task

You can open IBM® i source members directly from the Remote Systems view without having to create a member filter, or drill-down through your filters or library list to find the appropriate file. To quickly open IBM i members:

Procedure

  1. In the Remote Systems view, expand your IBM i connection.
  2. Right-click Objects and select Open Member.
Tip: You can also select Objects and use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Alt+Q.
  3. In the Open Member dialog box, enter the file and member name in the Library, File, and Member fields respectively. (Depending on where you right-clicked from the Remote Systems view, certain fields in this dialog box are pre-filled. However, you can edit the fields to point to a different location.)
  4. Select either the Open for edit or Open for browse radio buttons. Choose Open for browse if you do not want to make changes or lock the member on the IBM i server.

What to do next

If you want to change the keyboard shortcut, you can do so from the preferences window:
  1. From the menu bar, click Window > Preferences.
  2. Expand General and click Keys.
  3. Click the Category category column to sort by category and scroll to the IBM i section.
  4. Select Open an IBM i member in editor under the command column. There may be more than one entry for Open an IBM i member in editor. Choose the one with the key sequence that you would like to change.
  5. In the Binding field, delete the existing value and enter a new key combination. For example, if you want to change the sequence to Ctrl+Shift+X, press Ctrl+Shift+X on your keyboard. If there is a conflict with an existing key sequence, information is displayed in the Conflicts section.
