Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Creating members and containers

You can create members and containers by dragging and dropping resources directly into a CARMA repository or into a container within the repository. When a resource is dragged from one location and dropped into another, CARMA automatically calls the appropriate create function to carry out the task. In doing so, a new member or container is created in the new location and the resource is copied from the original location.
Note: You can drag and drop items into the CARMA Repositories View, but not vice versa

In addition to drag and drop, members and containers can also be created from the context menu within the CARMA Repositories view. To create a member or container from within the CARMA Repositories view, follow these steps:

  1. Expand a RAM within the CARMA Repositories view.
  2. Right-click on a member or container within the RAM to open the context menu.
  3. Select New.
  4. Select either a New Member or a New Container.

The New CARMA Member/Container dialog window opens.

Example dialog for creating a CARMA container.
  5. Within the dialog, select the parent container you want to use, and enter a name for the member or container.
  6. Once finished, select Finish to complete the process.

Deleting members and containers

In addition to being able to create members and containers from the context menu, you can also delete them too.

To do this:

  1. Expand a RAM within the CARMA Repositories view.
  2. Right click on a member or container within the RAM to open the context menu.
  3. From the context menu, select Delete.
Note: If the delete fails, the user will be prompted if they would like to force the delete by setting the force parameter to true. If the resource being deleted is a container, CARMA will attempt to delete the container as a whole first. If it fails, CARMA may then attempt to delete all of the contents within the container first before deleting the container itself.
