A CICS® test environment
can consist of several Multi-Region Option (MRO) connected regions.
This topic breaks down the various connection regions.
A CICS test environment
can consist of several Multi-Region Option connected regions. Over
time, unofficial designations have been used to categorize these regions.
Typical designations are terminal owning region, Web owning region,
application owning region, and data owning region (DOR). A Web owning
region is used to implement HTTP communications with
CICS, and the Application Deployment Manager CICS Resource Definition (CRD) server must run
in this region.
The Application Deployment Manager identifies this region as the CICS primary connection region.
The Application Deployment Manager CRD client implements Web
service and REST connections to the CICS primary connection region. CICS primary connection region definitions must
be configured by opening the Rational® Developer
for System z® preferences
page and selecting .

- Connection
- Type: For operations that require
a connection to the CICS Resource
Definition server for Application Deployment Manager (for example,
creating and editing a manifest for the Application Deployment Manager),
this must be set to CICS Resource Definition
server via Web services or CICS
Resource Definition server via REST. For improved performance
or if you are using functions that require resource types that are
new in CICS version 4.1 such
as bundles, XML transformations, or event bindings, use the CICS
Resource Definition server via REST connection type.
To
use the CICS Explorer perspective, you can use
one of the CICS Resource Definition server connection
types or, for additional options, use the CICSPlex SM Data
Interface connection type if it is available and configured
at your site.
