Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Extracting files to a z/OS project

In order to add additional editing functionality to CARMA resources, they can be extracted into a z/OS® project in your workspace. Doing so will allow you to take full advantage of the z/OS Integrated Development Environment. To extract CARMA resources into a z/OS project:

  1. Right-click the subset of files you would like to extract from within the CARMA Repositories view.
  2. Select Extract to from the context menu followed by Remote Project to open the extract to remote z/OS project dialog.

  3. Choose to use an existing z/OS Project/sub-project or create a new one. Clicking the Advanced >> button will display other options that are available. The only option available in Rational® Developer for System z® is z/OS project property retrieval. Once all information for the extract project is entered select the next button.
  4. Select a host location to extract to. This can be a PDS or a sequential file depending on the items selected in the CARMA Repositories view. A single member can be extracted to a Sequential file or PDS Member, and multiple items or a container can only be extracted to a PDS.

  5. Select OK.

The selected CARMA items will be copied to the host location and the project structure will be setup on the client for use as a normal z/OS project. All of the actions available for CARMA can be found under the team context menu (e.g., lock, unlock, checkin, etc) which also include methods to move the resources back into CARMA. The items extracted into the remote project work as if they are disconnected from the SCM. Changes made to the items in the project will not be reflected in the SCM until the item is copied back into the SCM.
