Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Installation section

The Resource Definition Editor contains an Installation section.

This section appears only if the Export manifest rule is set to Install only or either. The Export manifest rule is set by the system programmer and is a global setting for the CICS® test environment.

Clicking the Install Definitions button causes Application Deployment Manager to issue requests to the CICS resource definition server to install all installable resources and enable Enable only resources.

The Overwrite if resources already exist check box is used to select the install action for resources with a name conflict. By default this check box is not selected. There are two reasons why you might choose to overwrite.
  • You can reinstall a resource that was previously installed from this manifest and then edited later. Editing causes the resource state to be reset to Defined in manifest.
  • You can overwrite a resource previously installed by a system programmer or by another developer.
Note: Care should be taken for this case.

Resource install errors are reported in the project problem area view. Double clicking on an error in the problem area will launch the Resource Definition Editor and launch the edit dialog for the resource in error. Specific attribute errors are indicated by editing the resource in error. An attribute in error will display with a red X to the right of the attribute value. In some cases you may need to look at output from the CICS region logs to determine the exact cause of an installation failure.

CICS resource installation, scan, and phase-in status messages are displayed in the Eclipse Console view. The Console view can be added to the Enterprise Service Tools perspective by either selecting Window > Show view > Other > Console or by pressing the Alt-Shift-Q keys and selecting Console.
