Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Enhanced development functions for CA Endevor® SCM elements in MVS Subproject

The enhanced development activities such as content assist, open copy member, show dependencies and local syntax check are enabled when you:

Content Assist

For additional information on content assist, see Using content assist

Open Copy Member, Browse Copy Member (for COBOL) & Open Include File, Browse Include File (for PL/I)

When the member is open in the LPEX editor, these actions are available by right-clicking the copy/include file name referenced in source.

Show Dependencies

To show dependencies, right-click on a member in the MVS Subproject and select Show Dependencies.
Note: Developer for System z requires MVSProjects or members to be associated with a properties group for show dependencies. To fulfill this requirement, associate the element extracted to the MVSProject or the member in it with a <dummy> property group. Developer for System z does not use any of the properties specified in the property group when working with CA Endevor® SCM elements.

For additional information on creating a property group, see Creating a property group

Local Syntax check

To use local syntax check, right-click on a member in theMVS Subproject and select Syntax Check>Local or right-click in the LPEX editor and select Syntax Check>Local.

When you request a local syntax check for a remote COBOL or PL/I CA Endevor® SCM controlled members, all dependencies (such as copybooks and include files) are cached in a temporary location in your workspace. Developer for System z also stores the list of files as a property of the remote file. This search and temporary caching enables Developer for System z to complete a syntax check. Before checking syntax locally, you may need to associate the MVSProject (or the member in it) to a property group and set the Local Compiler Options in COBOL Settings or PL/I Settings. You need to set the Local Compiler Options only once and only if you want to override the default values. All other options specified in the property group are ignored.

For additional information on creating a property group, see Creating a property group
