1.0 Overview
This document describes how to install or update a downloaded version of the
IBM® Rational XDE™ Model Import feature.
This document also links to instructions that describe how to create a local
mirror of your product update server.
Note: Some of the code samples in this document are specific to IBM
Rational® Software Architect. For users who work with IBM Rational
Software Modeler, update variable names and directory names as appropriate.
2.0 Installation and update prerequisites
Before you can install or update this feature you must install either Rational Software Architect Fix Pack 6.0.0.1 or Rational Software Modeler Fix Pack 6.0.0.1.

Installation instructions for Rational Software Modeler Fix Pack 6.0.0.1 are available at

Also, if you disabled any product features through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, or by modifying feature.xml files, you must re-enable them before you install this feature.
3.0 Configuring the Rational Product Updater to install the local feature
Note: If you have already installed a previous version of this feature, you do not have to install the feature again. Please see section
4.0 Configuring the Rational Product Updater to update the local feature for instructions that describe how to update this feature.
Install the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.
Restrictions:
- Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler cannot be open
when you install this feature.
- On Windows® operating systems, you must use an account with
Administrator privileges. On Linux® operating systems, you
must use the root user account.
To install the feature, complete the following steps:
- Start the Rational Product Updater:
- On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM
Rational > Rational Product Updater.
- On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the
main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
- On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the
main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server
9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts
might not appear in the default location.
- Click Preferences > Update Sites.
- Navigate to temp_dir/rsa/policy_xde_600101.xml,
where temp_dir is the location of the extracted feature.
- Click OK.
- Click Find Optional Features.
- Select IBM Rational XDE Model Import.
Tip: To view the description for this feature, click the feature. The
description is displayed in the Detailed information pane.
- Click Install Features.
- To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.
Depending on the speed of your computer processor and the amount of RAM in your
computer, the feature might take an extended period of time to install.
After the installation is complete, the Rational Product Updater lists the installed
features on the Installed Products page.
- Close the Rational Product Updater.
4.0 Configuring the Rational Product Updater to update the local feature
Update the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.
Restrictions:
- Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler cannot be open
when you update this feature.
- On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator
privileges. On Linux operating systems, you must use the root user account.

- Click Find Updates.
- By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select IBM
Rational XDE Model Import.
Tip: To view the description for this feature, click the feature. The
description is displayed in the Detailed information pane.
- Click Install Updates.
- To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.
Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the
speed of your Internet connection, the feature might take an extended period
of time to download and install.
After the installation is complete, the Rational Product Updater lists the installed
features on the Installed Products page.
- Close the Rational Product Updater.
5.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server
You might want to create a local mirror of the Rational Software Architect update server or the Rational Software Modeler update server in the following situations:
- You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access
to the Internet.
- You administer a set of product installations that would benefit from a
local mirror of the update server.
For instructions on how to create a local mirror of the Rational Software Architect

For instructions on how to create a local mirror of the Rational Software Modeler
update server, visit www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/rsm/60/local_mirror/6.0.0.1/local_mirror.html.
6.0 Uninstalling the feature
Uninstall the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.
Restrictions:
- Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler cannot be open
when you uninstall this feature.
- On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator
privileges. On Linux operating systems, you must use the root user account.
To uninstall the feature, complete the following steps:
- Start the Rational Product Updater:
- On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
- On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
- On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.

- Click the Rollbacks tab.
The Rollbacks page shows an inventory of updates and optional features that are currently installed for Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.
- Select IBM Rational XDE Model Import.
Dependencies between updates are automatically enforced. If you select to roll back an update that is required by other installed updates, the updates that depend on the update
are also selected to be rolled back.
- Click Roll Back Updates.
- Close the Rational Product Updater.
