Licensing and license administration

An administrator typically sets up license server hosts, administers license keys and establishes license use policies. Users typically configure licensing on their own computers when they install Rational® ClearCase®.

Most Rational ClearCase applications and commands (cleartool commands, for example, or GUIs such as the Rational ClearCase Explorer) require a license to run. Rational ClearCase can use Rational Common Licensing, which is based on the FLEXlm license management tool from GLOBEtrotter Software, Inc. and ClearCase Licensing, a proprietary licensing scheme.
