Ensuring compatible character set encodings

If a client and server use incompatible character-set encodings, many Rational® ClearCase® operations fail.
Compatible character set encodings must be used by a CM Server and all clients it supports, as well as every Rational ClearCase server and Rational ClearQuest® server hosting data that will be accessed by those clients.
  • On Windows, the character-set encoding is determined by the location setting in the regional and language options control panel.
  • On Linux and the UNIX system, it is determined by the value of the LANG environment variable.

If the Rational ClearCase remote client is installed on a computer that is configured to use any character set other than en-US (ISO US English), users are prompted to verify, before connecting to a server, that the server supports a compatible character set.
