Load rules determine which elements are copied into the snapshot view. Any projectwide config spec that you include in the config spec for your view may already contain a set of default load rules.
If you do not use Rational® ClearCase® Explorer to load and unload elements, you must know the names of the elements in the VOB namespace in order to create load rules for them. You can find the element names by listing the VOB namespace.
You can use any of the following methods to add or modify load rules, depending on the platform you use and the environment you work in:
A config spec is a set of rules that written and maintained by the stream to which the view is attached and that determine which versions of elements are in the view. You can modify some parts, such as the load rules, but other parts of the config spec, which are clearly marked with comment tags, must be modified only by the stream. Any time you or the stream modify a snapshot view config spec, the entire view is updated. This is an appropriate course of action when you deliver or rebase the stream to which the view is attached, or when you remove elements by changing load rules; but it may be cumbersome if you want only to add a few elements to the view scope.
Any time you edit and modify the config spec for a snapshot view, the entire view is updated. This is appropriate when you first create a view, or when you modify the version-selection rules of a view, but it may be cumbersome if you only want to add a few elements to the view.
The -add_loadrules option of cleartool update adds load rules to the config spec for your view but updates only the portion of the view that is affected by the new load rules.
