Checking out from Visual Basic

To check out files and directories from Visual Basic:

Click Tools > ClearCase > Check Out.
Select files in the Check Out Files from ClearCase window.
In the Comment field, describe the changes you plan for the current versions. Comments are displayed in the Properties Browser and the History Browser.
When checking out files from Visual Studio, this comment is applied to every file selected in the Check Out Files window.
If you are working on a UCM project, find and set your view to an activity.
By default, checkouts are reserved. To override this default, click Advanced and do one of the following:
- To check out as unreserved if a file is already reserved, select Unreserved if already reserved. Then click OK.
- To check out as unreserved regardless of a file current status, clear the Reserved check box. Then click OK.
Click OK.

Tip: Instead of using this procedure, you can set up Visual J++ and Visual C++ to prompt you to check out files when you edit them (see Setting up Visual J++ and Visual C++ to prompt you to check out files).

To set up Visual J++ and Visual C++ to prompt you to check out files, perform one of the following actions:

Change default Visual J++ behavior by selecting Check out under When checked in items are edited. More information is available on changing the defaults for the integration with Visual J++.
Change default Visual C++ behavior by selecting Check out source files when edited. More information is available on changing the defaults for the integration with Visual C++ and Visual Studio .NET.
