Comparing versions of a file

Tip: This feature is available only for Microsoft Word documents.

Rational® ClearCase® provides a tool for finding differences between the version of a file that you have in your view and its immediate predecessor. This tool is particularly useful when you have made changes to a checked-out file and you want to examine the differences between your file and the original version you checked out.

  1. Click ClearCase > Compare with Previous Version.

A new session of Word starts. The display of the current version highlights all changes from the previous version highlighted in red and includes change bars in the margin.

  2. Review the highlighted text that identifies the changes.
Tip: The results of the comparison are displayed in a read-only window. Do not attempt to edit the text and save your changes from this context.
  3. Click File > Exit to quit Word.
  4. When you complete work on the file, click ClearCase > Check In to add the new version to the VOB.
