The Rational® ClearCase® integration with PowerBuilder manages both PowerBuilder objects and PowerBuilder libraries. The integration stores PowerBuilder objects as text elements in Rational ClearCase VOBs and it stores PowerBuilder libraries as binary elements in Rational ClearCase VOBs. PowerBuilder object elements use standard Rational ClearCase differences and merge capabilities during UCM deliver or rebase operations. PowerBuilder libraries, however, contain two representations of each object:
Because PowerBuilder libraries are stored in Rational ClearCase VOBs as binary elements, they cannot be managed using standard Rational ClearCase differences and merge capabilities during UCM deliver or rebase operations. Instead, Rational ClearCase specially manages PowerBuilder library elements during UCM deliver or rebase operations by means of an object list and the pblpopulate utility.
The Rational ClearCase administrator must take the following actions to enable users of the Rational ClearCase integration with PowerBuilder to perform UCM deliver or rebase operations:
