About starting a view and setting a view

If you work with a dynamic view, you can either start the view or set the view.

Starting a view

Starting a view establishes view-extended naming access without creating a process that is set to the view.

You start a view for either of the following reasons:

• To establish view-extended access to a VOB. Because mkview and mktag start a view on the local host only, remote users who want to use view-extended paths must use startview.
• To reestablish view-extended access after your system was stopped and restarted. Both local and remote users can use startview to reestablish view-extended access.

Setting a view

Setting a view with the setview command establishes view-extended naming access and creates a new process that is set to the view.
