Creating SQL and XQuery templates from existing templates

If you want to create an SQL or XQuery template with a pattern that is similar to the pattern of an existing template, you can base the new template on the existing template definition.

You can base the new template on the definition of a default template, a template that you created, or a template that you imported.

To create an SQL or XQuery template from an existing template:

  1. Click Window > Preferences.
  2. In the navigation tree of the Preferences window, expand the Data node and the SQL Editor node, and then click Templates.
  3. On the SQL Editor - Templates page, select the template on which you want to base your new template, and then click Edit.
  4. In the Edit Template window, change the name of the template and its description, and then use the pattern of the existing template to specify the pattern for your new template.
  5. Click OK. A message box prompts you to specify whether you want to create an additional template with the new name or rename the existing template. Click Yes. Your template is added to the list on the SQL Editor - Templates page.
  6. Click OK in the Preferences window.
The new template is now available for you to use in the SQL editor.
