Tutorial: Submit and categorize an asset

In this tutorial, you learn how to recognize the different parts of an asset, examine the differences between the common asset types, and categorize assets using existing category schemas.

With IBM® Rational® Asset Manager, users can easily submit and find assets that are submitted from any community in the repository to increase productive, efficient reuse of assets. Assets are tagged with various levels of metadata, ranging from the general descriptors such as name, version, description, or community membership to more advanced descriptors (for example, custom labels, tags, and categories).

Repository administrators define these company-wide categories that constitute the primary structure for the assets in the repository. Assets can be classified with as many categories that apply to the asset or the context of the asset. Users of the repository can select categories and apply them as search filters to narrow their searches within the repository category schemas. In this short tutorial, you learn how to create an Eclipse project, create and categorize a new asset, and find the asset using the category filters in the Search Results view

Attention: Before beginning this tutorial, contact your repository administrator and have them import the Sample Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Model (Administration > Tools > Import Sample Data > Import) Then add you as a user of the sample Service Development community with the reviewer and IT Operations roles.
