This role is responsible for performing the complex analysis of segment architecture, structure and processes and to draw conclusions from the information collected. By producing this understanding, it addresses the goals of enterprise architecture: effectiveness, efficiency, agility, and durability.

This role has a deep understanding of the overall architect and corresponding segment architectures and has the overall responsibility for driving major "segment architecture level" decisions for producing the corresponding DoDAF 2 views. It is also responsible for providing the rationale for these decisions, balancing the concerns of the various stakeholders, driving down implementation risks.
