The OV-4 is used to show the relationships that exist between between organizations both externally and internally. It can be used to capture the hierarchical nature of organizations and the posts that are used to fill them.

The OV-4 can be used in a role (OV-4 Typical in UPDM) based way to do Organizational and operational analysis and define human roles.

The OV-4 can also be used to capture actual organizations (OV-4 Actual in UPDM) where it is employed to illustrate current or future organization structures and identify process owners and architecture stakeholders.

It should be noted that these are only example of possible usages of an OV-4 they can be used to illustrate other organizational aspects of the architecture.
