Main Description

Describes systems and interconnections providing for, or supporting, DoD functions:

  • Include both warfighting and business functions
  • Associate systems resources to the operational and capability requirements through CV-6 and SV-5
  • The definition of the term system has changed: assemblage of components - machine, human - that perform activities and are interacting or interdependent

The intent is to move away from Systems Views to Service views:

  • Systems are meant to relate to legacy systems not the definition of new systems
  • Services are a very neutral way of specifying requirements and interfaces for equipment

The set of system views is similar to the Operational View set:

  • Cover structural elements and the information flow between them this is summarized in 2 tables SV-3 and SV-6
  • Capture behavior in activity diagrams, statecharts and sequence diagrams
  • Show traceability from Systems and SystemFunctions (Activities) back to the Operational (Activities) (SV-5a and SV-5b)

Additional Views (more EA orientated):

  • Capture the evolution of resources against a timeline
  • A technology forecast detailing a technology roadmap and the skill required to support that technology
