Design or update the design analog design (circuits and layouts) or undertake analog analysis or simulation.

Steps
Understand Change Request (optional)
The Analog Designer will need to clarify their understanding of the CR, especially to ensure they understand how it sits with work currently underway, and other items in plan. For instance they may have a choice as to exact sequence of work done themselves, or have colleagues working in parallel on related topics. It may also relate to availability of specific IT resources, like tool fixes or tool licenses or updated simulation models. This may involve dialog with the Design Authority or CCB, especially, or other colleagues identified on the CR.
Sequence Personal Work (optional)
There may be some flexibility or natural order or preferred sequence of work available to the Analog Designer, for instance where multiple items in a cell hierarchy are to be updated.
Provision Analog Designer Work Space
Use the identity and description information to configure the working area(s) used by the Analog Designer, this may be pre-configured or require some manual transfer of parameters to arrive at the correct place. This step involves providing the Analog Designer with tools, licenses, storage, processing tokens as needed for the job.
Open Work Space
The Analog Designer is authenticated and a check is made that they have authority and access level to open the working areas with its associated links, tools and licenses. The Analog Designer may need to use a Smartcard or other physical security device to gain access to more restricted information.
Open Library
The Analog Designer validates that the library as that specified in the CR in their Analog EDA tool or library manager, such as the Work Area Manager, to satisfy themselves that the source is correct, and whether there is any conflict with the target identified. The Analog Designer will need to resolve any uncertainty to avoid later rework, with the CCB and/or Design Authority. If this cannot be resolved some agreed approach to later resolution will be needed.
Open Design
The Analog Designer validates that the design as that specified in the CR in their Analog EDA tool or library manager, such as the Work Area Manager, to satisfy themselves that the source is correct, and whether there is any conflict with the target identified. The Analog Designer will need to resolve any uncertainty to avoid later rework, with the CCB and/or Design Authority. If this cannot be resolved some agreed approach to later resolution will be needed.
Open Cell

The Analog Designer validates that the cell, cell view etc in their Analog EDA tool or library manager, such as the Work Area Manager, to satisfy themselves that the source is correct, and whether there is any conflict with the target identified. The Analog Designer will need to resolve any uncertainty to avoid later rework, with the CCB and/or Design Authority. If this cannot be resolved some agreed approach to later resolution will be needed.

The Analog Designer needs to understand the cell(s) or cell hierarchy and the exact work products to be changed (analog design files in the library) e.g. schematic, cell layout, simulation model. In addition a decision is made to on the optimum order of work within the hierarchy, what order changes should be made. A note on this can be added to the CR.

Update Design

The Analog Designer updates the design, its cell(s), cell hierarchy as required and runs whatever validation and verification they have available.

The Analog designer modifies the design, existing cells and their associated design files (circuit schematic, layout, models etc). Adds cells as needed. Modifies design hierarchy and so on to meet the design goals or specification made in the CR.

To achieve the update successfully the Analog Designer will need to make reference to prevailing design or technology rules, application notes and technical standards as necessary. It is good practice to note these in the CR. It is possible that the CR template may have been modified to capture these check boxes directly.

In addition this step will require collaboration between roles when problems with updates occur or alternative approaches need evaluation. Another issue that may arise is problems with verification which require work to stop whilst simulation models are updated. This may result in a temporary check-in or snapshot for data security purposes.

A check is made against the CR and any prevailing specification, defect or tests to validate that the problems have been overcome or CR intent achieved. This may require assistance from others or evidence to be associated with the CR.

The Analog Designer may add annotations (tags and labels) to the cells to reflect aspects of the changes made. Certain conventions may exist to guide the use of such attributes.

In the case of a design review involving multiple changed cells, libraries or level of integration; a series of staged reviewed may be needed to review progress and resolve problems across the various responsibilities.

Update Library (optional)
Depending on the access that reviewers have to the cell under development, including use of remote screen sharing, then the design or library may be saved (updated) to reflect aspects of the change. This stage happens formally after approval.

Perform temporary check-in if required.
Initiate Review

Inform the Design Authority and others that the design is ready for review, either as pre-release (ready for approval & release) or to resolve problems or select alternatives.

Prepare information for the review – notes to CR, links and attachments such as results of simulation or analysis.

Schedule the review with the reviewers.
