1. Double-click the Rational Team Concert (RTC) shortcut or type in https://0.0.36.227/ccm

2. Login as pete/pete, the project manager. Then navigate to Pete’s web dashboard clicking on Project Dashboards -> Infusion Pump in the upper left corner.

3. Design Control is a set of practices to support medical device manufacturers in FDA compliance environments. The Design Control practices use the terminology found in the FDA Guidance. Right-Click on the Welcome Page for Design Control in the Booksmarks widget, and choose Open In New Tab. Navigate to the newly opened tab.  

4. Here, we can see the best practices content within the context of the work items and work products being developed. The navigation tree shows many perspectives that you may use to browse through the information; for example by role, by task or by process. Here, we have information on Design Control Concepts as described by the US FDA Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Click on Design Control Objectives and browse through the Concept and Objectives pages. 

5. This type of practice information is also available from within the tools using context specific links. Where appropriate, it also links to tool content. The practice information is then readily accessible to all users, reducing both search time and risk of missing tasks. Let us now Navigate back to RTC. Navigate to the RTC tab in your browser.

Further Explore the Project Dashboard

1. Have a look at Pete’s default dashboard for the Infusion Pump system. Note that this consists of a number of widgets that either act as feeds for events or display the result of queries on the database.

Benefit: This is what we mean by project transparency. RTC gives project managers data at their fingertips and can automate the presentation of that data into a consumable and readily understandable format. Managers can spend their time managing, rather than compiling spreadsheets manually.

2. Hover over the Open assigned to me list in the Infusion Pump Queries widget and we can see any tasks assigned to Pete. Yours may list 0 as it is a new project.

Benefit: The fact that the data is live removes the time needed to assemble the data, and means that it is always up to date.

3. One of the most useful summaries is the progress bar for the Plan. This view gives an indication of the progress being made on the current iteration. The green indicates that some progress has been made but the red indicates that some work is taking longer than estimated and hence the team is falling behind. Fortunately, there is time to catch up, we can tell this from the white space.

Pete’s dashboard plan widget will initially be empty, but will populate as we add work items and plan iterations.
