Guideline: Creating Reports using the RPE Generation Wizard
This guideline describes how to create reports using the IBM Rational Publishing Engine Report Generation Wizard.

This tool-specific guideline assumes that the Rhapsody is installed and running. The screenshots are using the Automated Meter Reader example.

1. Launch the Report Generation Wizard

From the menu select Tools > Rational Publishing Engine > Generate Report

2. Select a Template
  1. Click Browse
  2. Browse to RhapsodyInstallDirectory/Share/RPE/Templates
  3. Select ProjectContentReport.dta
  4. Click Open
  5. Click Next
3. Select Data Sources
  1. The wizard automatically enters the data source for Rhapsody's REST server:
  2. Click Next

4. Set Values for Variables
  1. This Template has one variable which may be defined by the user at document generation time - the Document Title.
  2. If no value is given then the Document Title will be the default value - in this case 'Sample RPE Output'c.
  3. Click inside the User Value field
  4. Type AMR System Report
  5. Click Next

5. Configure the Output

Tip: In this template there is only one configurable output - the Word document. Here you could select a stylesheet to use for the document. You could even choose to automatically execute one of the macros contained in the stylesheet after the document has been generated.

Click Next.

6. Summary - Generate the Report
  1. Click Finish
  2. The Report is generated - progress is displayed
7. View the generated document

Tip: Rational Publishing Engine generates the document in several different formats in parallel. These are configurable

  1. When the document generation has finished - a results window is displayed containing hyperlinks to each of the generated documents
  2. Click the first hyperlink - the HTML output:
