The main assumption is that the project spans two or more ALM domains (e.g. Requirement Management, Design Management, Source Code Management, Quality Management) or that two or more applications are used to manage the engineering work. Once you create a new global configuration, you assemble it by adding contributions, which are local configurations from various domains and applications, or other global configurations.

Global Configurations can be used to set the context for individual engineering applications or as contributors to individual products (system, subsystems, components).

Post-conditions:

• Once you have a global configuration established, you can later branch a new variant of that global configuration.  

Steps

1. Create a new global configuration and name it. Use a naming convention.

2. Add a Configuration to the newly created Global Configuration. By adding a configuration, you are adding a contribution to the global configuration. Contributions can be from any engineering domains and/or applications. Furthermore, global configurations can be composed of other global configurations, so can be used as contributors.  

3. Proceed to add contributions from any other domain applications (Design, Code, Test) following the Step 3 instructions.

4. Save changes.
