Main Description

A product variant is generally composed of a hierarchy of engineering parts (Subsystems, Hardware Components, Software Components, etc.) Each of these parts needs to be associated with underlying engineering artifacts that define and detail it. However, the underlying engineering artifacts need to be of the correct context, meaning that they need to be part of a new configuration. Thus, a Configuration Lead must point to appropriate configurations of engineering artifacts for each level of granularity (each part) of your product variant that was deemed impacted by the variation and approved for development.

Preconditions:

  • A new product variant has been created, analyzed, and approved.
  • Local work streams (configurations) of engineering artifacts have been branched for this variant
  • A list of impacted and approved product parts is provided

Postconditions:

  • A new product variant has been associated with appropriate configurations of engineering artifacts. At this point engineering work can start on the new product variant that you have established. Engineers from one or several engineering domains will be performing work in their respective domain tools, whose work streams are coordinated by this product variant.
