Running Java-to-UML transformations in silent mode

To prevent new dialog boxes from opening while a transformation runs, you can set the transformation to run in silent mode. If a reverse transformation is available and it supports silent mode, you can set the reverse transformation to also run in silent mode.

Running a transformation in silent mode suppresses all dialog boxes that the transformation generates. The transformation applies default rules and behavior, which might generate unexpected or incorrect transformation output. You should only run a transformation in silent mode when you need to validate that the transformation runs, instead of validating the transformation output. For example, you might run a transformation in silent mode as part of an automated task or automated test suite.

Specifying that the Java-to-UML transformation run in silent mode suppresses the merge editor. If there is a conflict during the merge, the transformation stops and you must rerun the transformation with the silent options cleared.

To set a transformation to run in silent mode:

  1. In the Project Explorer view, right-click the transformation configuration file; then click Open.
  2. On the Common tab, select the Run forward transformation silently check box.
  3. Optional: If the UML-to-Java transformation is available, you can select the Run reverse transformation silently check box. Specifying that the UML-to-Java, or reverse, transformation run in silent mode overrides the file overwrite options that you specify in the transformation configuration. The UML-to-Java transformation overwrites files if necessary.
  4. Click File > Save.
The next time that you run the transformation, it suppresses any dialog boxes.
Note: If you create a new transformation configuration, you can specify this information on the Common page of the New Transformation Configuration wizard.
