Upgrade and coexistence considerations

• When you install this version of Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta you are required to install an additional, limited function version of IBM Installation Manager. This version, called IBM Installation Manager RADBeta, is used only for installing, modifying and uninstalling Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta and the WebSphere Application Server Test Environment Extensions. You cannot use this version of IBM Installation Manager with other products or packages.
• If an earlier Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta release is installed:
  • If you have an earlier version of Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta installed, you cannot update it to this version.
• If you have Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.0.x.x is installed:
  • You cannot upgrade version 7.0.x.x of Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software to version 7.5 beta.
  • Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta can coexist with version 7.0.x.x (in other words, they can be installed on the same computer), but they must be installed in different package groups. (A package group is one or more packages - something installed by Installation Manager; commonly a product - installed in the same installation directory. Only packages that are designed to work together can be installed in the same package group.)
• If there are other products installed with IBM Installation Manager:
  • Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta and the optional WebSphere Application Server Test Environment extensions cannot share a package group with any other products; you cannot install it into an existing package group, and you cannot install other products into its package group.
• About the Shared Resources directory:
  • When version 7.5 beta of Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software is installed on the same computer as any other product installed with IBM Installation Manager (including Rational Application Developer, version 7.0.x.x,) then they still use the same shared resources directory. This is expected; there is only one shared resources directory - a directory containing files that might be shared by packages - and it is defined the first time that you install a package with Installation Manager.

Release notes

Downloading and extracting the installation files

There are 6 required compressed files for Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta and you must download and extract the contents of all of them to successfully install it.

You will need approximately 3 GB to download and store all of the required compressed files Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta, and approximately an additional 3 GB to extract the contents. To download all additional optional files, you will need approximately 4.5 GB to store the files and approximately an additional 4.5 GB to extract the contents.

Extracting the installation files

You now have a repository from which you can install Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta.

Installation steps

1. Change to the RAD_SETUP subdirectory of the directory where you extracted the "disks" for Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta.
2. Start the launchpad program:
   • For Microsoft Windows: Run launchpad.exe.

     Important - For Microsoft Windows Vista: You must run the launchpad program as administrator; right-click on launchpad.exe and click Run as Administrator.

   • For Linux: Run launchpad.sh.
3. In the Select a Language dialog-box, select English and then click OK.
4. In the launchpad dialog-box, click Install IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere V7.5 Beta. IBM Installation Manager starts.
5. Install IBM Installation Manger Version 1.2:
   1. On the first page of the Install Packages wizard, IBM Installation Manager, Version 1.2 is selected as the package to install. Click Next
   2. On the Licenses page, read the license agreements for IBM Installation Manager. If you agree to the terms of all of the license agreements, click I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Next.
   3. On the location page, in the Installation Manager Directory field, type the path type the path for the directory where you want to install Installation Manager or accept the default path and then click Next.
   4. On the Summary page, review your choices before starting the installation process. If you want to change your selections, click Back to return to the previous pages. When you are satisfied with your selections, click Install.
   5. When the installation process completes, click Restart Installation Manager. Installation Manager closes and restarts.
6. In the IBM Installation Manager(Beta=RADBeta) window, click Install. The Install Packages wizard opens.
7. On the first page of the Install Packages wizard, do the following things and then click Next:
   • Ensure that you select Rational Application Developer Version 7.5.0 RC0 as a package to install.
   • (Optional) Select versions of IBM WebSphere Application Server Test Environment.
     Tip: The WebSphere Application Server Test Environment extensions can be installed at a later time if you choose to not install them now.
8. On the Licenses page, read the license agreements for the products that you are installing. If you agree to the terms of all of the license agreements, click I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Next.
9. On the Location page, in the Shared Resources Directory field, type the path for the shared resources directory or accept the default path and then click Next. The shared resources directory contains resources that can be shared by one or more package groups.
   Important: You can specify the shared resources directory only the first time that you install a package. Use your largest disk for this to help ensure adequate space for the shared resources of future packages. You cannot change the directory location unless you uninstall all packages.
   Important: For Microsoft Windows Vista: Choose a location that is not within the Program Files directory (C:\Program Files). If you select a shared resources directory within the Program Files directory, then you must run Rational Application Developer as administrator.
   Important: For Linux: Ensure that you do not include any spaces in the directory paths.
10. On the next Locations page, ensure that you select Create a new package group and then type a path for the installation directory in the Installation Directory field or accept the default path, and then click Next.
    Important: For Microsoft Windows Vista: Choose a location that is not within the Program Files directory (C:\Program Files). If you select an installation directory within the Program Files directory, then you must run Rational Application Developer as administrator.
    Important: For Linux: Ensure that you do not include any spaces in the directory paths.
11. Click Next. (Extending an existing Eclipse IDE is not supported in this beta release.)
12. Click Next. (English is the only language that is supported in this beta release.)
13. On the Features page, select the features that you want to install. Dependencies between features are automatically enforced.
    Note: If you are installing WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.0 Test Environment, then you must select the feature IBM Rational Application Developer > WebSphere Application Server Development > Tools for WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.0. This feature is not automatically selected.
    Note: If you are installing WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.1 Test Environment, then you must select the feature IBM Rational Application Developer > WebSphere Application Server Development > Tools for WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.1. This feature is not automatically selected.
    Click Next.
14. On the Help System page, ensure that you select Remote Help and then click Next. The other help system options are not supported in this beta release.
15. If you are installing any of the optional WebSphere Application Server Test Environment extensions, the Configuring the WebSphere Application Server page opens. For each WebSphere Application Server Test Environment extension that you are installing, perform the following steps:
    1. In the left-hand column under the version of WebSphere Application Server Test Environment extension, click Configuring the WebSphere Application Server.
    2. Either leave the default selection Create a profile to create a profile for the application server test environment or clear it if you want to create the profile later. You can create a profile using the workbench (Window > Preference > Server > WebSphere Application Server).
       Note: If you are the root user and are installing for a non-root user, then do not create a profile at this time and request that the non-root user to create the profile later in the workbench.
    3. If you selected to create a profile in the previous step, then do the following things:
       1. Type a profile name and profile path in the corresponding fields or accept the default entries.
       2. (For version 7.0 and version 6.1) By default, the option Enable administrative security on the profile is selected. Clear this selection if you do not want to enable security on the profile. Otherwise, enter a user ID and password in the corresponding fields.
16. On the Summary page, review your choices before starting the installation process. If you want to change your selections, click Back to return to the previous pages. When you are satisfied with your installation choices, click Install.
17. When the installation process is complete, a message confirms the success of the process. If you want to start IBM Rational Application Developer, ensure that it is selected and click Finish.

Starting Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.5 Beta

You can start Rational Application Developer V7.5 Beta later from your desktop environment (for example, Start > All Programs > IBM Software Delivery Platform > IBM Rational Application Developer 7.5 > IBM Rational Application Developer) or from a command-line.
