Associate customers with an asset

When you associate one or more customers with an asset, you make the asset record visible to users who have been given permission to access the customer’s data. One of the customers associated with an asset is the primary customer. A primary customer can be copied to a work order or ticket and then used to find customer agreements and price schedules, service level agreements, and response plans.

The primary customer also determines the classifications, and attributes of classifications, that an asset can use. By default, the first customer you associate with an asset is the primary customer.

If you select a set of customers to associate with an asset, and there is no primary customer for the asset, the first customer alphabetically in the selection becomes the primary customer for the asset.

If the primary customer for an asset is not correct, you can change the primary customer.

To associate customers with an asset:

  1. From the List tab of the Assets (SP) application, select the asset that you want to associate customers with.

  2. On the Asset tab, click Show/Manage Customers next to the Primary Customer field.

  3. In the Add/Modify Customer Associations window, click Select Customers.

  4. Select one or more customers from the list and click OK.

  5. Click OK to save your changes and return to the Asset tab.

The primary customer determines classifications that the asset can use to identify and characterize the asset. When you associate a primary customer with an asset that has a classification, attributes of the classification can become available or made unavailable. From the Specification tab, you can click Select Attributes to add any new attributes to the specification.
