Bulletin board audiences

You can designate an audience that can view bulletin board messages in the Start Center. As a result, you can filter out the people who do not need to view a message. You can also restrict certain messages to authorized users.

You can select the audience for a message from an organization, a site, a person group, or a customer. If no audience is specified, any user who logs in to the system can view the message.

When a user opens the Start Center, all messages that the user can access are displayed.

The list of users who can view messages is always filtered by customer first. If a message audience includes one or more customers, a user must be authorized to access at least one of the customers. Otherwise, the user cannot view the message, regardless of any other audience settings. User access to customers is defined in the Security Groups (SP) application.

After user access is filtered based on the customers, or if no customers are specified in the audience, other audience filters are applied. A user can view a message in the Start Center if one of the following conditions is true:

Bulletin board messages can also be sent in an e-mail to people by using the Create Communication action. The audience that is listed on the bulletin board message can be used to filter the recipients of the e-mail.
