Create a Configuration Item

You create configuration items (CIs) to establish relationships and groupings of IT infrastructure components for configuration management and change control.

You use configuration items in multiple ways, including the following situations:

To create a configuration item:

  1. Open the Configuration Items (SP) application and click New CI .

  2. In the Configuration Item field, enter a name for the configuration item.

  3. Enter a description in the CI Description field. To enter additional information, click Long Description .

  4. Enter values as needed in the fields at the top of the tab.

Similarly, the CI Location, Site, Organization, Item Set, Calendar, and Shift fields can be affected by other choices.

When you associate a primary customer with a CI that has a classification, other attributes may become available. Below the Specifications table window, click Select Attributes to add the new attributes to the specification.

  1. To enter attributes, click New Row. The Row Details opens.

Note: To enter attributes, the configuration item must be associated with a classification.

  1. In the Attribute field, enter a value or click Select Value .

  2. Fill in additional fields as needed. An asterisk (*) indicates a required field.

  3. Click Save CI .
