Define Relationships Between CIs

In the Configuration Items (SP) application, you can define relationships between the current CI record and other CIs. For example, you can specify that a particular software program is installed on a particular computer.

To define relationships between CIs:

  1. In the Configuration Items (SP) application, display the CI record for which you want to define a relationship to another CI.

  2. Click the Related CIs tab.

  3. Click New Row.

  4. In the Source CI and Target CI fields, enter values or click Detail Menu to select an option and retrieve a value. The current CI record can be either a source or target CI. If you enter a CI that is not the current record in one of the fields, the other field displays the current CI record.

  5. In the Relationship field, enter a value or click Detail Menu to select an option and retrieve a value. If both CIs are associated with classifications, the system checks that the relationship is valid. If it is not valid, you receive an error message.

Note: You define relationship values in the Relationships application.

The Containment field (read only) indicates whether there is a containment relationship between the source and target CIs.

  1. Click New Row to define additional relationships or click Save CI if you are finished defining relationships with the current CI.
