Create a Classification

Create classifications to group and identify objects such as locations, assets, items, sales orders, and work orders.

To create a classification:

1. On the Classifications (SP) application toolbar, click New Classification .

2. In the Classification field, specify an identifier for the classification. You can type a description in the Classification Description field.

3. Optional: Add this classification to a hierarchy.

• In the Parent field, click Select Value and select a parent.

4. Select an organization and a site. If you want to make this classification available for every organization and site, leave the Organization and Site fields blank.

5. Specify whether the classification is for all customers or specific customers.

6. To make the classification available for all customers, select the Is Global check box.

7. To make the classification customer specific, clear the Is Global check box.

6. Customer specific classifications: Associate customers with the classification.

1. Click Show/Manage Customers next to the Customer field.

2. In the Add/Modify Customer Associations dialog box, click Select Customers. Select customers from the list and click OK.

3. Click OK to return to the Classifications tab.

4. Optional: Select the Associate Customers with Children check box to associate customers that you add to the classification or which are added by the system with all children of this classification.

5. Optional: Select the Associate Customers with Attributes check box to associate customers that you add to the classification or which are added by the system with all customer specific attributes of this classification.

If you do not associate any customers with a customer-specific classification it will not be available to any users with a customer based security profile.

7. Select the Generate Description check box to use the classifications to build descriptions for assets, locations, and items associated with a record.

If you want to use the classification in the generated descriptions, select the Use Classification check box.

8. Specify the objects that you want to use with the classification. Click New Row in the Use With table window and add one or more objects.

9. Optional: Add children to the classification.

10. Optional: Characterize the classification by adding attributes. Insert rows and complete fields in the Attributes table window.

11. Click Save Classification .
