Create an Attributes Equality Clause

You use the Attributes Equality subtab on the Comparison Rule tab in the Comparison Rules (SP) application to create new attributes equality clauses. An attributes equality clause identifies the specific attribute or attributes of a child or parent object in Data Set 1 to compare with specific attribute or attributes of a child or parent object in Data Set 2 when the system processes a comparison rule. To create attributes equality clauses:

Note: These instructions are based on the assumption that you have selected a comparison rule or created a new rule in the Comparison Rules (SP) application and are positioned on the Comparison Rule tab. If you have not created or selected a comparison rule, see Create a Comparison Rule for more information about creating or selecting a rule.

  1. On the Comparison Rule tab in the Comparison Rules (SP) application, select the Attributes Equality subtab.

  2. To add an attributes equality clause, in the Attributes Equality Clauses table window, click New Row. The Row Details open.

Note: The application generates a sequence number for each new row created. By default, the application creates sequence numbers in increments of ten in ascending order. You can modify the numbers as needed or add new clauses with sequence numbers that fall between already-existing numbers. Each sequence number must be unique. When you save the record, the application sorts the clauses in ascending numerical order.

  1. If appropriate, in the (... field (open parenthesis), enter an open parenthesis.

  2. In the Data Set 1 Object field, click Select Value and select a Data Set 1 object from the Select Value dialog box. The value selected populates the Data Set 1 Object field.

Note: If you select a specification (such as ASSETSPEC) for the Data Set 1 Object field, then select a value for the Data Set 1 Class Structure field.

  1. If appropriate, in the Data Set 1 Class Structure field, click Select Value and select a class structure from the Select Value dialog box. The selected class structure populates the Data Set 1 Class Structure field. The application displays the classification for the selected class structure in the Data Set 1 Classification field and a description in the Data Set 1 Class Structure Description field.

  2. In the Data Set 1 Attribute field, click Select Value and select a Data Set 1 attribute from the Select Value dialog box. The value selected populates the Data Set 1 Attribute field, and the application displays the title of the Data Set 1 attribute in the Data Set 1 Attribute Title field.

  1. In the Data Set 2 Object field, click Select Value and select a Data Set 2 object from the Select Value dialog box. The value selected populates the Data Set 2 Object field.

Note:  If you select a specification (such as ACTCISPEC) for the Data Set 2 Object field, then select a value for the Data Set 2 Class Structure field.

  1. If appropriate, in the Data Set 2 Class Structure field, click Select Value and select a class structure from the Select Value dialog box. The selected class structure populates the Data Set 2 Class Structure field. The application displays the classification for the selected class structure in the Data Set 2 Classification field and a description in the Data Set 2 Class Structure Description field.

  2. In the Data Set 2 Attribute field, click Select Value and select a Data Set 2 attribute from the Select Value dialog box. The value selected populates the Data Set 2 Attribute field, and the application displays the title of the Data Set 2 attribute in the Data Set 2 Attribute Title field.

  3. If appropriate, in the Data Set 2 Unit of Measure Attribute field, click Select Value and select a unit of measurement attribute from the Select Value dialog box. The value selected populates the Data Set 2 Unit of Measure Attribute field, and the application displays the unit of measure title in the Data Set 2 Attribute Unit of Measure Title field.

Note: Sometimes you might want to compare attributes with a unit of measurement attribute. For example, if you are trying to determine whether the amount of RAM on a notebook in Data Set 1 matches the amount of RAM on a notebook in Data Set 2, you select RAMSIZE for an attribute. When you specify the parameters for the Data Set 2 object in the comparison, you can specify RAMUNIT as a unit of measurement attribute. The system successfully matches the object in Data Set 1 with the Data Set 2 object only if the value and measurement unit of the object in Data Set 1 is equal to the value and measurement of Data Set 2 object. 1 GBYTE matches to 1 GBYTE; it does not match to 1GB.

  1. If appropriate, in the ...) field (close parenthesis), enter a close parenthesis.

  2. If appropriate, in the Sequence Operator field, click Select Value . A Select Value dialog box opens. On the dialog box, select the appropriate sequence operator. The selected operator populates the Sequence Operator field.

Note: If you use multiple clauses, specify a sequence operator for all rows except the row with the highest sequence number. The row with the highest sequence number cannot have a sequence operator.

  1. If appropriate, repeat steps 2 through 12 to create additional attributes equality clauses.

  2. When you have entered all attributes equality clauses, if appropriate, you can create one or more filters for the comparison rule by selecting another subtab in the application.

  3. When you complete all components of the comparison rule, click Save Comparison Rule   to save the comparison rule.
