Customer-specific
domainsSynonym, ALN, and Numeric domains can be restricted by the customer value. If an object is associated with a customer, a domain value can be applied to the object only if the domain value is associated with the same customer.
If a customer or its parent customer is associated with any customer-specific values in the domain, then only those domain values can be used with the customer's objects. If the customer or its parent customer is not associated with any customer-specific values in the domain, then any domain values that are not customer-specific can be used for that customer.
All domain types are restricted by site and organization. Site and organization restrictions are applied to domains before customer restrictions are applied. Domain values can be applied to an object if the site or organization that is associated with the object matches the site or organization that is associated with the domain value. Domain values that are not associated with a site or organization cannot be used for objects that are associated with sites or organizations. These domain values can be used only for objects that are not associated with specific sites or organizations.
Customer restrictions on Synonym, ALN, and Numeric domain values are applied after site and organization restrictions. If a domain value is associated with a customer, the domain value can be applied only to objects that are associated with that customer. Domain values that are not associated with customers can be applied only to objects that are not associated with customers.
Customer-specific domains can be applied to objects such as assets and locations that can have multiple customer associations with one customer designated as the primary customer. The domain value is associated with the primary customer. Customer-specific domains can also be applied to objects such as tickets, work orders, and person records that can have only one customer association.
Objects such as job plans that do not have any customer associations, cannot use domain values that are associated with customers. Objects such as items, service level agreements, and classifications that have multiple customer associations with no primary customer, cannot use domain values that are associated with customers.
Premier Service provides building management services to Simon Malls and Cummings Properties, and manages the assets of both companies. Simon Malls refers to its locations as Facilities, while Cummings Properties uses the term Properties.
A user from Premier Service has access to data for both customers. When the user selects an asset type for a Simon Malls asset, the user selects Facilities, as defined in the Synonym domain. Both the asset and the domain value are associated with Simon Malls. When the user selects an asset type for a Cummings Properties asset, the user selects Properties, as defined in the Synonym domain. Both the asset and the domain value of the asset type are associated with the Cummings Properties.
The user cannot apply the Properties domain value to the Simon Malls asset, because the customer on the asset (Simon Malls) is not the same as the customer on the domain (Cummings Properties).
