Specifications TabSpecifications TabYou use the Specifications tab in the Item Master (SP) application to classify an item and apply the specification template that is associated with the classification you choose. Specification templates contain attributes about an item, such as its size, speed, material, and capacity. You can use these attributes to define specific information about the item, therefore making it easier to distinguish it from other very similar items.
After you choose a classification path for an item, the Specifications section displays the predefined list of attributes, and you can enter values specific to the item. You cannot add or modify the attributes themselves. If you cannot find a classification path that meets your needs, you must create one. You create classification paths and the predefined attributes for each in the Classifications (SP) application.
For example, if you want to create an item record for a PC, you can view the classifications that exist for PCs. You then choose an existing classification that meets your needs: HARDWARE > PCs > Fermion> T23. The Classify dialog box also lists the items that have been classified with that description.
Classifying
items also helps you search for them quickly. While working with work
orders, job plans, and on purchasing lines, you can use the Detail Menu
on the Item field to view a list of the classifications,
their attributes, and their associated items. If
you do not remember the item number for a particular item, you
can search for it based on the item's classification path and attributes
using this Classifications search tool.
