Network Printer Tab

You use the Network Printer tab in the Network Printers (SP) application to view information about a network printer. Note that only network-based printers are included in this application; for information about printers installed locally on specific computers, refer to the Computers (SP) application. In the Computers (SP) application, you can view data about locally-installed printers on the Image Devices tab.

Note: Data displayed in the Network Printers (SP) application varies depending on the discovery tool used to collect the data. Some data fields in the application may be empty. An empty field indicates that data was not collected by the discovery tool or that administrators did not map the data for import into the database.

The Network Printer tab displays the following information about a network printer:

• printer name

• printer description

• the site at which the printer is located

• role or function of the printer (usually network printer)

• customer that is associated with the network printer. This customer can be the customer that owns the printer, or the customer on whose behalf a service provider discovers assets.

The Network Printer Details area of the tab displays the following details about the network printer:

• serial number

• asset tag

• manufacturer

• make/model

• current RAM size

• maximum RAM size

• domain to which the printer belongs

• network address of the printer (usually the TCP/IP address)

• MAC address, the Media Access Control address that uniquely identifies each node of a network

• maximum paper width

• maximum paper length

• number of trays

• color depth bit, the maximum color depth that the printer can process. The number of colors that can be processed corresponds to the number of bits per pixel.

• vertical DPI, the maximum vertical resolution in dots per inch

• horizontal DPI, the maximum horizontal resolution in dots per inch

• GUID (globally unique identifier)

• Unique id.  You can use the Detail Menu in this field to navigate to the Actual Configuration Items (SP) application.

The Detection Information area on the Network Printer tab provides the following information about the printer:

• hardware detection tool

• hardware last scan date and time

• whether the printer supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and has it enabled

For information about a field, place the cursor in the field and press Alt+F1.
