Create a Reconciliation Task

You use the Reconciliation Tasks (SP) application to create reconciliation tasks that you can schedule for execution using the Cron Task application. You can create reconciliation task records from the List tab or from the Reconciliation Task tab in the application. For additional information about executing reconciliation tasks, see Setting Up a Reconciliation.

A reconciliation task consists of three possible components: a task filter (optional), one or more link rules (required), and one or more comparison rules (optional). For more information about the components of a reconciliation task, see Reconciliation Task Components.

To create a reconciliation task:

  1. On the toolbar in the Reconciliation Tasks (SP) application, click New Reconciliation Task . The application displays a new reconciliation task record on the Reconciliation Task tab.

  2. In the Reconciliation Task field, enter the name that you want to assign to the reconciliation task. The name entered in this field is a unique identifier for the reconciliation task.

Note: You use the value entered in this field to specify this task when you schedule the task in the Cron Task Setup application.

  1. If appropriate, in the Description field, type a description. To enter additional information, click Long Description .

  2. If appropriate, select the Is Case Sensitive? check box. Selecting this check box makes all elements of the task case sensitive, including the task filter and any link rules or comparison rules associated with the task.

  3. Optional: In the Customer field, select the customer for which you are creating a reconciliation task. This can be the customer that owns the assets or configuration items (CIs), or the customer on whose behalf you are discovering the assets or CIs. You can only specify the customer if the record has not been saved, and if there are no task filters, link rules, or comparison rules attached to this reconciliation task. If a value has been set in the Task Filter, Link, or Comparison fields, then the Customer field shows the customer that is associated with that item.

  1. If appropriate, in the Task Filter field, click Detail Menu and select one of the following options:

  2. Click Select Value to open a Select Value dialog box and choose from a list of existing task filters. This list is limited to task filters associated with the customer in the Customer field. If there is no customer specified, then only task filters that do not belong to a customer are listed here.

  3. Click Go to Task Filters to go to the Task Filters (SP) application. In the Task Filters (SP) application, you can modify an existing value and, from the Navigation Links, click Return With Value to copy the task filter to the Reconciliation Tasks (SP) application. If no existing task filters are adequate, you can create and save a new task filter and return the new value to the Reconciliation Tasks (SP) application. You can also click Return to return to the Reconciliation Tasks (SP) application without selecting a value. For additional information about how to create and save a task filter, see the online help for the Task Filters (SP) application.

  1. In the Type of Reconciliation table window, in the Data Set 1 field, click Select Value to select the appropriate authorized data set. The application automatically populates the Data Set 2 field with the corresponding discovered data set.  For example, if you select ASSET for Data Set 1, the application selects DEPLOYED ASSET for Data Set 2.

  1. In the Link Rules table window, select from the following options to create one or more link rules for the reconciliation task:

  2. To select an existing link rule, in the Link Rules table window, click Select Link Rule and select one or more link rules from the Select Link Rule dialog box. This list is limited to link rules associated with the customer in the Customer field. If there is no customer specified, then only link rules that do not belong to a customer are listed here.

Note: The application generates a sequence number for each new row created. By default, the application creates sequence numbers in increments of ten in ascending order. You can modify the numbers as needed or add new link rules with sequence numbers that fall between already-existing numbers. When you save the record, the application sorts the rules in ascending numerical order. When the system evaluates link rules, it processes them in a cascading sequence, based on the sequence numbers, until it finds a match or until it reaches the end of the cascading rule list.

  1. If appropriate, in the Comparison Rules table window, select from the following options to create one or more comparison rules for the reconciliation task:

  2. To select an existing comparison rule, in the Comparison Rules table window, click Select Comparison Rule to select one or more comparison rules. This list is limited to comparison rules associated with the customer in the Customer field. If there is no customer specified, then only comparison rules that  do not belong to a customer are listed here

  3. To create a new comparison rule, complete the following steps:

    1. In the Comparison Rules table window, click New Row. The Row Details open.

    2. In the Comparison Rule field, click Detail Menu and select one of the following options:

      1. Click Select Value to select from a list of existing comparison rules.

      2. Click Go to Comparison Rules to go to the Comparison Rules (SP) application. In the Comparison Rules (SP) application, you can modify an existing comparison rule and, from the Navigation Links, click Return With Value to copy the comparison rule to the Reconciliation Tasks (SP) application. If no existing comparison rules are adequate, you can create and save a new comparison rule and return the new value to the Reconciliation Tasks (SP) application. You can also click Return to return to the Reconciliation Tasks (SP) application without selecting a rule. For additional information about how to create and save a comparison rule, see the online help for the Comparison Rules (SP) application.

  1. If appropriate, in the Comparison Results field, click Select Value to select the type of results for the comparison rule. The Comparison Results field specifies which comparison results to display in the reconciliation results (SP) application. If you define a comparison rule for the reconciliation task, select a value for this field.

  2. When you finish defining the reconciliation task, click Save Reconciliation Task to save the reconciliation task.
