Associations between customers and items

When you create customer records, you create detailed agreement and pricing information for the customer and the services that you expect to provide. By associating customers with service items, you can provide the appropriate response to that customer.

You create customer records in the Customers (SP) application. You associate customers with service items in the Service Items (SP) application.

By associating customers with service items, you keep the item records restricted to the users who have been given permission to access the data of a particular customer. User permissions are set up in the Security Groups (SP) application.

You can associate more than one customer with a service item. You can specify a list price for an item, and you can specify different discounts for different customers in the Customer Agreements (SP) application. When a ticket or work order is created for a customer, information about that customer, including the list price information for the service item, is copied to the ticket or work order. Therefore, one customer might receive a 10% discount for an item, while another customer receives a 15% discount for the same service item.

When you associate a customer with an item, child items do not inherit the association.
