Originating and follow-up record relationshipsA pair of tickets or work orders can consist of an originating record and a follow-up record. A follow-up relationship usually associates records for information purposes only. For example, you might create a follow-up work order when you complete a job, but notice that additional work is needed on the same asset or location.
In some cases, a system administrator can allow the follow-up record to update the status of its originator. An originating record cannot change the status of its follow-up record. If multiple follow-up records exist, a follow-up record cannot change the status of its originating record.
You create follow-up records through the Create > Recordname action. After you relate the records, the original record has a relationship type of ORIGINATOR and the new record has a relationship type of FOLLOWUP.
The corresponding record and its relationship type are displayed on the Related Records tab of the applications associated with the two records. For example, if you create an improvement record from an incident record, the originating incident record is displayed on the Related Records tab in the Improvements (Oil) application. The follow-up improvement record is displayed on the Related Records tab in the Incidents (Oil) application.
Only tickets and work orders are displayed on the Related Records tab. For example, if you create a risk assessment record from an incident record, the originating incident record is displayed on the Related Records tab of the Risk Assessment (Oil) application. The risk assessment record, which is not a ticket or a work order, is not displayed on the Related Records tab of the Incidents (Oil) application.
