Sharing the EMC VMAX system between a host and a IBM Spectrum Virtualize clustered system

There are restrictions for sharing EMC VMAX systems between a host and the IBM Spectrum Virtualize™ system.

An EMC VMAX system can be shared between a host and the IBM Spectrum Virtualize system under the following conditions:
  • When possible, avoid sharing target ports between the IBM Spectrum Virtualize system and other hosts. If you cannot avoid this situation, you must regularly check the combined I/O workload that is generated by the IBM Spectrum Virtualize system and the other hosts. The performance of either the IBM Spectrum Virtualize system or the hosts is affected if the workload exceeds the target port capabilities.
  • A single host must not be connected to both the IBM Spectrum Virtualize system and an EMC VMAX because the multipathing drivers (for example, subsystem device driver [SDD] and PowerPath) cannot coexist.
  • If the EMC VMAX is configured in such a way that other hosts cannot access the LUs that are managed by the IBM Spectrum Virtualize system, other hosts can be directly connected to an EMC VMAX system at the same time as the system.
