Your SAN environment must meet certain necessary requirements
to support the use of the IBM Spectrum Virtualize™.
Before you begin
To install a IBM Spectrum Virtualize into
an existing SAN that will be in use during installation, you must
first ensure that the switch zoning is set to isolate the new IBM Spectrum Virtualize connections
from the active part of the SAN.

the following Web site for specific firmware levels and the latest
supported hardware:

Procedure
- Consider the design of the SAN according to your requirement
for high availability.
- Identify the operating system for each host system that
will be connected to the IBM Spectrum Virtualize,
ensuring compatibility and suitability by performing the following
steps:
- Specify the host bus adapters (HBAs) for each host.
- Define the performance requirements.
- Determine the total storage capacity.
- Determine the storage capacity per host.
- Determine the host LUN sizes.
- Determine the total number of ports and bandwidth that
are needed between the host and the IBM Spectrum Virtualize.
- Determine if your SAN has enough ports to connect all
hosts and back-end storage.
- Ensure that the existing SAN components meet the requirements
for the IBM Spectrum Virtualize by
performing the following steps:
- Determine the host system versions.
- Ensure that the HBAs, switches,
and controllers are at or above the minimum requirements.
- Identify any components that must be upgraded.
