CMMVC9373E The command failed because the drive is only supported for Distributed Arrays, which do not use spares.

Explanation

An attempt was made to change the role of a FlashCore Module (FCM) so that it can be used as a hot-spare drive. This error can occur when the chdrive -use spare drive_id command is run on an FCM. Only distributed arrays are supported on FCMs. FCMs cannot be used as hot-spare drives.

User response

Do not attempt to change the role of an FCM so that it can be used as a hot-spare drive. If you are replacing failed drives in an array, insert the replacement drives directly into the same slot as the failed drive, which causes the system to automatically configure the FCM as a replacement member.

If the role of the replacement drive was already changed, inserting it in the same slot does not cause the system to automatically replace the previous member drive in the array. In this situation, use the charraymember command to add the replacement candidate drive directly into the array. Change the role of the old drive to unused to remove it from the system.

If the member drive was removed from the array by changing its role from failed to unused, you must use the charraymember command to service the array.
