Microsoft Device Specific Module (MSDSM)

Microsoft Device Specific Module (MSDSM) is the recommended multipathing driver for the Windows Server operating system. It is included in the Windows Server operating system.

Note: The Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO) feature must be enabled when you are using MSDSM.

Complete the following steps to install MSDSM on the Windows Server operating system:

  1. Install the Multipath I/O feature by using the Add Roles and Features wizard in the Windows Server Manager.
  2. Open the MPIO Properties window from the MPIO application in Windows Administrative Tools.
  3. Select IBM 2145 on the Discover Multi-Paths tab in the MPIO Properties window and click Add.
  4. Click OK to restart the host when prompted. Wait for the host to restart.
  5. Open the Powershell and enter mplcaim -s -d

    Ensure that MSDSM is installed correctly and can claim the volumes correctly.
