Removing and replacing an EMC shield: SAN Volume Controller 2145-SV2 and 2145-SA2

A trained service provider may need to remove and replace the EMC shields as part of the midplane replacement procedure.

Before you begin

Note: Do not operate a node with EMC shielding parts removed. Doing so might cause interference with other equipment.
  • Ensure that the node is safely powered down before servicing this part.
  • A cross-head screwdriver is required to remove and install the node EMC shield.

Procedure

Removing the EMC shields

  1. If necessary, remove the fascia from the node, as described in Removing and replacing the fascia: 2145-SV2 and 2145-SA2
  2. Using a cross headed screwdriver, open both latches on the EMC shield, as shown in Figure 1
    1. 1. Turn the screw 1/2 turn anticlockwise (counterclockwise) to loosen the latch, but do not remove the screw completely.
    2. Slide the screw vertically in its slot to open the latch.
    3. Gently tighten the screw to hold the latch open.
    4. Repeat steps a through c to open the second latch.

  3. Holding the shield by it's handle, remove it from the node.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to remove the other two EMC shields.

Replacing the EMC shields

  1. Refer to Figure 1 to identify the correct orientation of the EMC shield on the node.
  2. Examine the two latches on the front of the EMC shield. If either latch is closed, use a cross head screw driver to open the latch, as follows:
    1. Turn the screw 1/2 turn anticlockwise to loosen the latch, but do not remove the screw completely.
    2. Slide the screw up in its slot to open the latch.
    3. Gently tighten the screw to hold the latch open.
  3. Insert an EMC shield into one of the three spaces at the front of the node, as shown in Figure 1, so that each latch aligns with its slot in the front of the node.
  4. Using a cross headed screwdriver, close and secure both latches on the EMC shield.
    1. Turn the screw 1/2 turn anticlockwise to loosen the latch. Do not remove the screw completely.
    2. Slide the screw down to the bottom of its slot so that the latch engages fully into the front of the node.
    3. Gently tighten the screw to secure the latch.
    4. Repeat steps a through c to close and secure the second latch.
  5. Repeat steps 5 - 8 so that all three EMC shields are installed in the front of the node.
