Drive configuration worksheet

The control enclosure supports up to 24 drives, which are installed in drive slots on the front of the enclosure. Some drives must be installed according to specific guidelines.

Use the following guidelines to plan the drive locations and record them in the worksheet.
  • In an operating control enclosure, a drive slot must not be left empty for more than 10 minutes.
  • Storage Class Memory (SCM) drives can be installed only in drives slots 21 - 24. The highest capacity drive must be installed in the highest available drive slot.
  • Other NVM Express (NVMe) drive types can be installed into slots 1 - 24. Install them in order of capacity, with the highest capacity drives in the lowest available drive slots.

Figure 1 shows an example of the drive locations. In this example, the control enclosure contains 4 SCM drives and 20 NVMe drives.

Use Table 1 to record the configuration of the drives or drive blanks that are planned for your system. For each drive slot, specify the type and capacity of the drive or whether a drive blank is installed.
