Replacing a Storwize V7000 Gen2+ node canister trusted platform
module
Use this procedure to replace a faulty node canister trusted platform
module (TPM) with a new one received from CRU / FRU stock.
About this task
Important: If the node is part of a system and is the last online node, do not proceed
to change the TPM in the node. Doing so prevents the node from accessing encryption keys that are
stored on the node canister boot drive. Instead, complete repairs to bring another node (ideally the
partner node) online in the system. The node with the replacement TPM can then obtain required
encryption keys from the online node.
Remove the faulty TPM by applying gentle, outwards pressure simultaneously to the retaining
clips 2 at each end of the TPM slot until the TPM is levered out of the
slot.
Touch the replacement TPM packaging onto a metal area of the case, and then remove the
replacement TPM from its package.
Ensure that the retaining clips of the TPM slot are open.
Gently place the replacement TPM in the slot, ensuring that the notch in the TPM connector edge
aligns with the shape of the slot.

platform module
Apply even, firm, downwards pressure on the TPM in its slot until the retaining clips move
inwards and engage the edges of the TPM.
Ensure that the retaining clips are fully engaged with the edges of the TPM. Gently pull the
TPM upwards and ensure that it does not become dislodged.
