Storwize® V7000 Gen2 models have
specific connection requirements.

1 USB ports. Each canister has two USB ports.
2 Ethernet ports. Each canister has four 1 Gbps Ethernet
(GbE) ports and can have host interface adapters with Fibre
Channel or 10 Gbps Ethernet ports for FCoE and iSCSI connections.
3 Serial-attached SCSI (SAS) ports.
The four 1 GbE ports provide system management connections and iSCSI host connectivity. The
fourth port is reserved for the technician port, to provide access to initialization and service
assistant functions.
Port 1
Must be connected for system management. Can optionally be used for iSCSI host
connectivity.
Port 2
Optional. Can be used for iSCSI host connectivity or to provide an alternative (redundant)
management address.
Port 3
Optional. Can be used for iSCSI host connectivity.
Port T
Technician port. Can be connected directly to a computer for service access and system
initialization.
The following control enclosure connections are required:
Each Storwize V7000
control enclosure requires two Ethernet cables to connect it to an Ethernet switch or hub. One
cable connects to port 1 of the left node canister, and the other cable connects to port 1 of
the right node canister.
For 1 GbE ports, the
minimum link speed is 100 Mbps; for 10 GbE ports, the minimum link speed is 1 Gbps. Both
Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) are
supported.
Note: For increased redundancy, an optional second Ethernet connection is supported
for each Storwize V7000 node canister.
To ensure system failover operations, Ethernet port 1 on each node
canister must be connected to the same set of subnets. If used, Ethernet port 2 on each node
canister must also be connected to the same set of subnets. However, the subnets for Ethernet
port 1 do not have to be the same as Ethernet port 2.
If you have more than one control enclosure in your Storwize V7000 system, the control enclosures
communicate through their Fibre Channel ports or their FCoE ports.
Each canister has two SAS ports for connecting optional expansion
enclosures. In total, Storwize V7000 Gen2 control enclosures can have up to 20 chain-linked expansion enclosures, 10
per port.
In addition to the four 1 Gbps Ethernet ports, each Storwize V7000 Gen2 node canister has two interface slots for optional Fibre Channel or 10 Gbps Ethernet (for
FCoE or iSCSI) host interface adapters:
One or two iSCSI/FCoE adapters per node canister.
One or two Fibre Channel adapters per node canister.
Each node canister within a control enclosure must be configured with the same host interface adapters.
Short-wave SFP transceivers are preinstalled in the control enclosure Fibre Channel
ports and any 10 Gbps Ethernet ports. You can order long-wave SFP transceivers to replace the
short-wave transceivers in the Fibre Channel ports only. 10 Gbps Ethernet ports for FCoE and
iSCSI do not use long-wave transceivers.
