Connections

Ensure that you are familiar with the specific connection types for the system.

Each control enclosure requires the following connections:

  • Each system node requires one Ethernet cable to connect it to an Ethernet switch or hub. The cable must be connected to port 1. For 1 GbE ports, the minimum link speed is 100 Mbps; for 10 GbE ports, the minimum link speed is 1 Gbps. Both Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) are supported.
    Note: For increased redundancy, an optional second Ethernet connection is supported for each system node.
  • To ensure system failover operations, Ethernet port 1 on all nodes must be connected to the same set of subnets. If used, Ethernet port 2 on all nodes must also be connected to the same set of subnets. However, the subnets for Ethernet port 1 do not have to be the same as Ethernet port 2.
  • Each system node requires connections to the host systems. This connection might be:
    • Fibre Channel connections through the maximum of eight Fibre Channel ports per node
    • Two FCoE ports per node or iSCSI connections through the minimum of one or more 1 Gbps Ethernet ports per node
    • If the 10 Gbps Ethernet adapter is installed, connection through the maximum of four 10 Gbps Ethernet ports per node
  • Fibre Channel ports connect nodes in the system.
