Concept diagram

Spectrum Virtualize Family can use the IBM® Spectrum Virtualize Family SRA add-on that works with each instance of VMware vCenter SRM (protected or recovery).

Figure 1 shows how an IBM SAN Volume Controller is integrated in a typical VMware SRM disaster recovery solution.

Figure 1. Concept diagram
The concept diagram shows the IBM Spectrum Virtualize Family SRA at the local site, connected to an SRM database and to the recovery site IBM Spectrum Virtualize Family SRA, which is connected to an SRM database. There is a direct connection between the two IBM Spectrum Virtualize SRAs called "Communication between vCenter SRM servers." Each IBM Spectrum Virtualize Family SRA is connected to its own SAN Volume Controller at the bottom of the graphic, which are connected to each other. Above the SAN Volume Controllers are storage area networks with SAN switches. Those are connected to each other with the label "Inter-site SAN links." Above the SAN switches are VMware ESX server farms. Each server farm has four virtual machines and has automatic failback to the other VMware ESX server farm. The VMware ESX server farms are connected to each other with inter-site network links.
