Port settings for the EMC VMAX

Target port characteristics can be set by using the set port command from the Symmetrix Command-Line Interface (SYMCLI).

The target port characteristics can be viewed by using the symcfg command from the SYMCLI.

Table 1 lists the options that must be used with the system.

  1. Factory default setting is not to be changed since EMC requires setting the SC3 and SPC2 flags.

  3. If you are running SAN Volume Controller or Storwize family versions earlier than 7.1, set the SPC-2 bit to Disabled.
  4. If you are moving from versions earlier than 7.1 to 7.1 or later, do not change the SPC-2 bit on a production system. Keep the SPC-2 bit at Disabled.
  5. For VMAX3 with 5977, the SPC-2 bit is set to Enabled and is non-configurable. VMAX3 is supported on version 7.3 or later only.
  6. If you are running 7.1 or later and installing a new VMAX storage system, the SPC-2 bit can remain at the default setting of Enabled. Changing the setting of the SPC-2 bit on a production system is not supported and might cause issues.
