Physical configuration planning of the SAN Volume Controller system

Before you and your IBM® service representative install the IBM SAN Volume Controller nodes and uninterruptible power supply units, you must plan the physical configuration and the initial settings for the system.

Procedure

Download the hardware location chart, the cable connection table, the configuration data table, and the optional redundant ac-power switch connection chart from the following website:

  1. Go to: www.ibm.com/support.
  2. Under Support shortcuts, click Plan and install documentation.
  3. In the search box, type and search for IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Planning Information; then click on the search result.
  4. Click the desired link to download it to your computer.

Results

  • Follow the recommendations in the Requirements and guidelines for completing the hardware location chart topic to record the physical configuration of your system.
  • Follow the recommendations in the Requirements for completing the cable connection table topic to record the connection between your SAN Volume Controller units, the uninterruptible power supply units, and the optional IBM System Storage® Productivity Center.
  • Follow the recommendations in the Configuration data table guidlines topic to record the data that you and the IBM service representative need before the initial installation.

When you or your IBM service representative have completed these tasks, you can then perform the physical installation.
