Removing and replacing a CMOS battery: 2145-SV2 and 2145-SA2

The complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) battery is a coin-shaped power cell that is mounted inside the node canister. It is used to keep the system time when there is no power to the node canister.

About this task

Use this procedure to remove and replace a CMOS battery in a node canister. Dispose of the faulty battery properly.

Procedure

  1. Remove the node canister, as described in Removing and replacing the node canister in the node: 2145-SV2 and 2145-SA2,

Removing the CMOS battery

  1. Remove the node canister cover, as described in Removing and replacing the cover of the canister: 2145-SV2 and 2145-SA2.
  2. Locate the CMOS battery inside the node canister.
  3. Use a flat head screwdriver to gently pop the CMOS battery out of the battery holder, as shown in Figure 1. However, do not remove or loosen any screws in the node canister.

Replacing the CMOS battery

  1. Orient the replacement coin cell with the positive side up.
  2. Gently push the new coin cell down into the battery holder.
  3. Replace the node canister cover, as described in Removing and replacing the cover of the canister: 2145-SV2 and 2145-SA2.
  4. Reinsert the node canister, as described in Removing and replacing the node canister in the node: 2145-SV2 and 2145-SA2.
    If the canister does not begin to power up, check that it is fully inserted into the node.
  5. Reconnect all cables.
  6. Use the management GUI to check that the time and date settings of the system are correct.
    If a CMOS battery error is present in the Event Log, run the fix procedure.
